Training time in the commute...

Postby Hebden » Mon May 04, 2009 3:54 pm

Hi All,

I am looking for some advice/opinions on training as part of the commute. I was planning on putting in a race pace effort on the way to work, for 60-90 minutes. Would the 7 hours at work (sitting in the office) before the commute home be enough time to recover, or could I be cheating myself of gains by riding again so soon?

Cheers,
Mark

I don't see any problems with hard on the riding home. However my advice will be to just go at a good tempo and pace on the way home as a massive effort both ways may burn you for the next day and so on. When I ride to commute I smash myself on the way in and then just go constant good pace on the way home. When I want to, on the last day of the week I will smash myself both ways as I can have a rest the next morning. Mind you, my own commute is only 25km each way unless I wish to do extra k's.

Good luck with it, have a go every now and again both ways and see how you recover.
Yesterday was an easy day.

Thanks Brendan,

Yeah I tried it out. It took a while to get warmed up again on the commute home, but I was able to maintain a pretty steady effort, even after the morning’s efforts. I actually road pretty well the next day too. So I guess I can recover sufficiantly.
