Just read on the KK website about the power meters, made some sense. One thing i dont get, if im doing a strength session ( eg riding the 53/12) in the saddle (AT) 60 rpm, will it give an accurate reading? Or will it be a low reading coz the wheel wont be spinning overly fast?

It shouldn't matter what cadence is as the power is directly proportional to the wheel speed.

I don't need the KK computer as I just go off the average speed on my computer. The Blackburn computer I use claims 1% accuracy for speed IIRC. Using the formula below I use a spreadsheet to covert the average speed to power and keep track of progress (or lack of). I also keep in mind the list below (I calculated from the formula) to give me a mental picture of what power level I may be pushing at the time.
Power = 5.244820 x Mph speed + 0.01968 x (Mph speed)^3

Km/h Power (W)
31____242
32____ 259
33____ 277
34____ 296
35____ 317
36____ 338
37____ 360
38____ 383
39____ 407
40____ 433
41____ 459

Concerns about the trainer's power readings being way off may be allayed by riding a relatively flat circular course for the same time you do on the trainer, get your average speed, then use a calculator like http://www.bikecalculator.com/ to give you another source for an estimate. Then compare the two readings and you may have a better idea whether the trainer is close or not.

As much as I'd like a real power meter, I think they are too expensive for my casual fitness training commitment.

As long as it is repeatable, I dont think the actual number really matters.
How will i know if my one is out?

So it will calculate power (my KK power meter) regardless of what gear i am in and what speed i am pedalling at?
You wont know if it is out, and it doesnt matter. So long as it is always out by the same margin so you can see your progress, that is all that matters.
As is said, the only reason if fiddled with mine was that I already had a baseline for my wife whch I wanted to continue using. Had it not been for that, I would never have bothered.
I still havent checked my PT yet, so it may well be out, not the KK computer.

The power is calculated as a function of your wheel speed, so it doesnt matter what gear or cadence you are using, any given speed will return the same power figure.

AU$1000 shipped from Competitive Cyclist

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/road ... 380.0.html

Will improve your riding more than any other $1000 you could spend on your bike.

Thats pretty decent huh. As you said, if your serious about your training, there is no better way to measure your fitness and train with power

May actually be cheaper than AU $1000 with the strong dollar at present. I think it was about $680 US plus post.
