Kiel Mountain Road is a shocker. The 1992 Queensland Road Titles went over it several times when some guy called Robbie McEwan won.

A few hills for me yesterday. I'd set a goal to do Barrengarry, which was quite daunting, however it wasn't as hard as I expected. Pretty much perfect weather, bedside's a bit of fog in Kangaroo Valley. 73km's (AT) 1800m elevation

I just wanted to add here that last Saturday I PB'd a 50km loop I do which starts out with some nasty hill crossing with a dash of head wind and finishes with a nice flat cross wind shifting to tail....50.5km (AT) 1hr56mins I was quite chuffed with, previous effort was 2hr2mins

BUT...since then, have been bashed into a cave of man flu (must of been building as I went through PLENTY of water on the ride) it's now been 8days since a ride and I swear I am breaking out in hives and itching to go again, trying my best to not get back on too soon

I am sure I am not the only one who suffers from this 'pain' throughout the year, so frustrating

You must be tired :-) .
I am... Dental work ( root canal on one tooth, prep for a crown on another ) made yesterday's ride tiring :-( . Last road race of the season tomorrow ... Summer is over and it has been getting pretty cool already :-( x 10 .
Have to do some work which means nearly 2 weeks off the bike :-( x 100.
Will have to find some steps to run ... CX season is nearly here!!!.

Impressive. How are the legs? It must be hard on them with all the climbing and then the long drives.

219km Bris to Kin Kin near Gympie. Stay the night.
That map shows you going up through Kenilworth and Carters Ridge? Either that or going through Kiel Mountain is a seriously tough ride, i'd have to strongly disagree with

the most gnarly bits - climbs up Maleny Stanley River Rd, Kiel Mtn Rd, Tunnel Ridge Rd. all not such a big deal in their own right
IMO each of those on their own are tough roads, let alone doing them after starting in Brisbane! Top work mate. I'm planning on doing a similar overnighter in the next few months when I can arrange 2 days in a row off work, from Coolum to either Kingaroy or Warwick and back.

Doing a ride out through Conondale way tomorrow morning if the weather plays nice, having a crack at a climb I haven't done before so fingers crossed :) .

Legs are actually feeling okay. Much of the driving was on the Interstate highways - so set the cruise control 8 mph over the speed limit and just had to steer the van. Long distances at 83 mph compared to 110km/hr here goes so much quicker...

Will see how the legs go next weekend as it is our clubs hill climbing championships.

Up at Cedar Pocket?

I did a loop yesterday that went over Kiel Mountain from Didillibah, the climb is hard enough but not that bad, the mongrel part is the downhill on the western side, steep as all hell and an awful surface.

Did Brandenburg Road up to Bald Knob for the first time, very hard going but great views to make up for it :) .

After coming so close to breaking 28kph av over 52k circuit last week (27.8kph) thought i would give my first century a go today. Made it through just. hip was hurting from the 20k mark but determination to not go home till 100k was up was stronger than the pain. Just glad to have my first 100 out of the way! now to aim for 30kph over the 52k circuit then aim for sub 4hour 100k!

Well done Cmm, I'm sure 100k'ers will become more frequent soon.

I will chime in; I've had a disastrous week training after last weekends 6hr MTB Race, I'd still planned my 11 hours for the week but a few easy Z1 rides before getting into it again... I managed 8 hours for the week but felt sluggish all week until today!

Today I just went out for a spin to unwind, mix it up a bit without too much of a care for what I was doing (trying to get the legs back), after logging on to strava I surprised to find I'd beat my best time up a local climb by whole 21sec (now 4:29) and the other climb by 2sec (now 2:13). Pretty chuffed!

was off the bike from mid-april to mid-june with infected ankle, blew out from 80 -> 85 kg.

got back on and have done 3,500km since, a lot of which during i felt pretty rough after losing form and now back down to 80kg!

even managed to hold on to Masters C at last race Tour of Midlands which had heaps of climbing, which was a good sign. but now i'm off on holidays for 4 weeks, so i'll have to start again when i get back

i will bring some runners with me on holiday and also looking to climb a big peak in the italian alps.

If heading through Bormio, I hired a Coppi carbon road bike from Bormio Bike and Ski for a couple of days last year...

Stelvio http://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/201 ... -18th.html

plus

Mortirolo - Gavia loop http://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/201 ... -19th.html

are both worthwhile riding.

Back on the cross bike... Lots of mud and grass... And running banks. Fark it hurts like hell the day after... Running is very foreign to me! .
Thought the 1st race was this Saturday but it's not till the week after. So I have entered a 45km mtb race on Sunday... Aim is to ride the cross bike... Going to smash it as hard as I can and see how I pull up! Lol

Likewise TLL :( I'm in training for an off road tri series which is a lake swim followed a twisting MTB course followed by a trail run. Went out hard this morning & managed 4.30 km's (only 5km though). I'm going to pay for that, but sitting here at the periodontist waiting to go in for a titanium implant this morning so won't be doing jack for 10 days anyway.
