V02 and physiology assessments?

Postby GoSchlecko » Tue Aug 04, 2009 2:03 pm

Hi all,

Would like to get an assessment of my physical state before getting into cycling seriously, so that I can compare periodically.

Are there a series of tests that you guys run on yourself? Or somewhere/one you can go to to get assessed?

I am in Sydney.

Thanks for any advice/input.

Well you can be tested at a few facilities/sports labs. e.g. NSWIS and some of the universities. How much are you looking to spend on performance tests over the course of your training time?

IOW, consider the alternative, using a power meter on your bike and you are gathering performance data every time you ride. Far, far more practical and useful than occasional VO2 Max or lactate threshold testing.

you can visit any sports scientist or physiologist and they'll conduct the tests for you on an exercise bike. power testing's good, but if you want just an indication before you start cycling, its probably better to see someone.
