This one? The last two sentences are interesting - "The results provide scientific support for muscle coordination pattern alteration from the use of IC, potentially achieving a more effective pedalling action. IC training reduces quadriceps exertion, thus preserving it for important moments during competition.", especially after saying that the retention test (T3) showed they had gone back to initial conditions.

Must have been a different one I'm thinking of. Don't really recall.

Shame they don't tell us whether there's any actual change in performance as a result of using IC versus the control group. IOW they make a claim/draw a conclusion about performance but don't actually tell us whether that claim is in fact supported by evidence of improved power output, which is all that matters.

What amuses me is their starting premise/assumption that "circular" pedaling is better (with no evidence that that is in fact the case), so it's a pretty slipperly slope from there.

It's all summed up in the word "potentially". :?

Damn it, you think someone would have done the tests we are interested in!

Yes. I'll be doing some write ups once I've had a chance to get some decent time trying them out.

Ah nice. Eagerly awaiting the write up.

I may have to get on them soon, with my current crop of injuries (click the link to my blog for some gory photos  ) it seems my left leg will be ready for action well before my rightt..

Scary. Hope the leg turns out well.

So - are you a 'push harder' or a 'circles' guy?

I have a slightly different philosophy, I believe with some good physio/functional strength work you can make your pedalling more efficient (or perhaps 'feel' moreso like you are pedalling circles), but when you are on the bike you pedal with whatever you've got and at that point in time there is nothing more you can do than HTFU and push :x
