Sprint training burns like hell Chad! I'm a sprinter have been in all the sports I have done. Because of this muscle make up I'm a power athlete like you I assume. I/you are never going to be natural climbers or endurance athletes but I can sure train to be better at it.
1st you need to choose what you are going to do be a track sprinter or a road sprinter. If you are going to be a pure track then forget the road races. I know little about the track sprinting but the people I've seen who try to do both suck at the road, track endurance well that another story look at some of the best road riders of today.
Ok road for a sprinter what works for me and many others. You still need a base to work from, go on group rides(most are easy) and enjoy as you get fitter do them back to back so you do 120k's at a time:)

Great way to work on base. Then train doing Strength endurance. In Perth you need to go to the hills Welshpool road is a very popular one. You need to climb in the big chainring at 50rpm (yes 50) make sure you don't cook yourself your heart rate should not go over you threshold (E3). You will get some say the wattage figures don't add up for this type of training but I challenge you to go to Welshpool road and have a look at who is doing this type of training, you will be shocked at certains times of the year just who is in Perth or you could just watch them on the box!!!
Start with one effort it will hurt heaps at first and make sure you stay smooth on the bike don't pull on the bars, just concentrate on your pedal stroke. Build up to two efforts and do it twice a week for 8 weeks continue your base and groups rides. You will be shocked at how strong you get after about 4 weeks. After 8 weeks you can start to look at your speed work and other intervals. This is very basic if you need more help there are people in Perth who do and have trained some of the best riders in the country. But it comes at a cost hard work is not optional. I find it hard to get to the hills so do many repeats up shorter hills in the burbs but its not as good as a climb like Welshpool rd or Red hill.
Their maybe other ways of improving you endurance I'm sure Alex on here would have some but if you try this you will get some great returns for it but willl never be an aerobic dainty climber but you will sure able to monster them on most climbs here in your races.
