Back on the bike

Rode to work yesterday and today after 4 weeks of no cycling and not much for the 10 weeks or so preceeding it. My legs felt OK but I felt short of breath and HR was higher than it would normally be. I tried to go at a reasonable speed but it seemed a bit harder than I remember. Is that what others find after a bludge period? I wonder how long before any sort of fitness returns?

Mate I am in the same place as you. WOrk is so busy at the moment plus family committments, very little riding for about 9 weeks. A few false starts at returning to commuting...hopefully this week, though the weather forcast is poor.

Only takes a few weeks to get a bit of fitness back. I always recon 6 weeks is pretty good but 10 or more to really be back to it...unless you've been off for a long time.

A fair while before it will return. Too bloody cold again this week I couldn't be bothered :oops: I hate winter.

I was forced off a bike for about a month or so due to injury.

its amazing how quickly you loose all your muscle and endurance.

It has been about 2 months and i only think i'm getting closish to the point i was before the accident!

It was just a holiday/lazy break from the bike i suspect it will be around the month to month and a half before you start to get any rythymn and muscle memory back

Have a thought for me.
I have been off the bike since last November due to reoccurring injury which set me back before. Once your mind has lost the desire to ride it is very hard to start up again
Thank goodness I have split personality to convince myself that I have to ride. I am happy to say that I am committed again but I need a lot of encouragement from myself.

Yeah I've lost my mojo too. Our main race season is during the winter when the weather is at it's worst, Say What? Can't be bothered it's only a bit of fun anyway, and it ceases to be when the rubbish weather makes it a chore.

half a dozen rides in as many weeks has resulted in lack of fitness.. 6kg's of weight gain.. Rode yesterday in a gale ..winds at 3--48 kph and below 10 degrees..went out again today.. Struggled to do 50 ks.. Couldn't wait to get off the bike... struggled and averaged 22 kph after averaging 28-30 until the break.. Will push on and ride throught the wet.. It's not about excercise, nutrition and diet help.. Really felt like an old bloke on the bike today but Spring summer is around the corner..The magpies have started swooping and it can only get better
