Thanks for the support. Have dads iPad and am home resting. Transfer was impossible, no beds and they won't let you have one anyway. Ups and downs in gong hospital despite the top private cover. Have three carers wanting to be by my side so it was hard having them sit by the waiting room when I can't move my arms and no nurses were available. Probably sounding a bit pessimistic, but don't think I'm not 100% committed to physio and recovery.

Feels good to be home. The trip was exhausting, dad drove and is from Brisbane and found Sydney traffic awful from gong, much more pleasant on a bike.

Thanks again. I spend a lot of time on this forum and your comments mean a lot to me.

Good to hear from you Othy! How are you managing to type on the ipad with the state of your arms? Thought you'd be using a paddle pop stick j/k.

Keep up us up to date with your progress as i am sure that writing about it will also help with your speedy recovery. A diary even.

They want me using my arms as much as possible. I have no reach behind and very little strength, but am currently up and moving, doing physio exercises 4+ times a day and being forced to feed myself by my mean carers. All movement now apparently greatly affects movement Down the recovery path.

It's painful but I think of it like cycling intervals, which I took fairly seriously too. I've started logging my reps.

I would ensure that the food i have to force myself to feed with would all be my favourites. Throw caution to the wind and enjoy the limited pleasure i have: foie gras, oysters, salmon roe, mangoes, smoked salmon, my favourite pizzas etc regain the appetite and then aim to lose all that weight when i return to cycling.

Keep it up Tim. Bite your lips and keep moving. They are right that early progress has significant impact on the longer term prognosis... Keep those joints moving.

We are all here when you need a laugh.

We know your got the right attitude Tim and that's why you are going to do the right thing

One of the lines I throw out there in the spin classes is "pain it temporary, results are for life"

Sure it wasn't Mike and Mal?

Good luck, and keep the spirits up and do what the physio says!

Must be nice to be at least in a home environment rather than the contant noise of the hospital.

Keep up the movement and be nice to the carers :D They might force you to eat masshed brussel sprouts with anchovy sauce .....

I let Othy know your asking about him, I visited on Sunday and his bike was there and its amazing how little damage there is to it.

I posted this on my club forum about his bike
mikesbytes wrote:Lizanne and I visited Tim on Sunday morning, you could see the improvement over a week. A long way to go though.

The bizarre thing is the sheer lack of damage to his bike. There is a scratch on the right hood, a scratch on the rear derailleur and some minor damage to the seat. Excuse my crap phone camera photos. Click for biggies

Bilateral broken humerus's by othyb, on Flickr

Update time.
No more bandages or slings. Still can't move my arms much. Pain is well reduced, and I'm only taking some Panadeine Forte as required, which is basically just before bed. I can even sleep on my side for a small amount of time.

Doctor is very happy with how the bones have been placed in the sockets, and my current rate of healing. I still have another 4 weeks until a MRI and I find out if I have Avascular necrosis.

I have physio exercises that I do religiously 3 times a day. Light weights (and I'm talking 250g) that I do once a day. I also attend Hydrotherapy 3 times a week, which has helped enormously, if not just for the time spent buoyant.

That's good to hear Othy. 8)

Hope you don't have that, (my nose bleeds trying to say it) but if you do, what can be done for the bone? :|

Not a lot can be done. The first thing is my ortho has recommended an experimental drug that is used to treat perthes' disease, but I'll need to visit another specialist to see if that is an option for me. If that fails then I'll likely need joint replacements, which is not a good option as I'm only 29 and their lifespan is only about 10 years.
