How steep is the back compared to say, the gateway bridge?

I think the gateway is about 5%. coot-tha back averages 9%. i.e. almost twice as steep

Yes they run most Tuesday nights weather permitting. It's the trip out there, plus a couple of laps (self paced). They re-group and then head into town. They are even known to stop for an optional beer.

Alternatively Wednesday mornings is very popular there, but in general most mornings see's lots of cyclists. Note that just before 7am is the rush hour to the TV stations.

Does anyone know the best route to Mt Coot-tha from the CBD, might give it a go.

Easy. Bicentenially bikeway to toowong, then sylvan rd, then some more bikeway to the cycle bridge over the western freeway, and you are there :)

oh and ps. Mornings are better because they are cooler, there's more riders around (safety in numbers), and if you are early enough and there is fog, its rather nice.

I was reading the winner of last years cootha challenge was in the high 7's which was surprisingly "slow" given the record is in the 6's.

Damn impressive time.
I think you may be looking at the wrong segment. This is the one we all use:

Rode the back on the weekend and noticed there was some resurfacing work taking place. Do we think TMR/BCC will paint the distance markers back on the road??

It's a BCC road. Sadly they won't paint the markers back on the road. A mate who works there has begged and pleaded to no avail.

I always assumed the distance markers were just graffiti? Were they put there when one of the coot-tha events were on?
