Cadence - Post Yours

Postby ft_critical » Sat Oct 22, 2011 10:42 pm

Post your cadence. Long term (LT) average and 5min max (5m) cadence. For comparison. I don't care what gear you are in.... Copy the previous persons cadences to make a list.

FT LT = 89
FT 5m = 118

I generally prefer high cdc to low, seems easier on my knees... Not sure why I would copy the previous persons to make a (confusing) list when we have a thread.... So I'm boycotting that suggestion :P

I suppose my figures would be;

Tk: LT = 100
Tk: 5min = 110 (Untested but I've not seen much higher for any prolonged period)

On hills I'm generally pretty happy with anything > 85 for seated efforts, on the flats I depends how recently I've eaten my jam sandwich ( ) and how good the surface is! Today I had a great ride, spun along nicely at 35-40kph for a good 10-20k's at one point at about 105 rpm. Can't wait for my edge 500 so I can nerd it up and relive all the data after the ride

4 hour ride (LT) is usually 90
If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

LT (most rides between 1hr and 3hrs) is consistently between 92 and 96.

5min - NFI.

Cheers,
Simon.

While I don't have the exact data to answer the question, I do have a reasonable knowledge of cadence from doing spin classes.

In an ITT I'd typically sit on 120 - 130. In a road race it would be lower.

Decending on the fixie, I hit 168 yesterday descending into Wisemans. A couple of years ago on the fixie I was clocked at 196 in RNP.

What I've found is that my natural cadence has gone up. This year I found bottom gear too high climbing in the Grafton to Inverall, despite having exactly the same gearing as last year.

More so that the fixie riding, the reason my cadence has gone up is more to do with the spin classes
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

That's phenomenal Mike (with my limited exposure). My comfortable range has climbed from 80 up to 100, and for shorter (read 5m-10m) bursts 110.

This might sound weird, I can spin at the pedals (AT) 110 but have to think about it! If i just ride and then review in strava afterwards my avg cadence on rides ranging from 9km to 120km ends up being 90, I guess this is what they call natural cadence???

Then in a bit of an effort, it looks like the avg might be closer to 100. I guess you could say i just pedal and let the cadence work its self out!

Possibly but might not be the only reason. You might, for instance, be more powerful this year (which if you are climbing faster, is most likely).
