Mojo - Got Some?

Postby ValleyForge » Fri Oct 17, 2014 1:54 pm

Any suggestions as to what brings mojo back? Briefly got it back during this week and found it completely gone today.

I need it back for the 90k ride with 1800m of climbing tomorrow.

I'd be keen to hear what works for people.

Maybe the best way to get it back is to do some massive ride with huge elevation, or something similarly extreme like what you are doing tomorrow.

Other than that, I don't know. It happens sometimes.

Mojo? Are you referring to motivation or a good purple patch (form)?

Yeah - I do get the endorphins from a tough ride (especially hills). My training buddy & I ride all through winter and even look forward to it so commitment isn't a problem.

Just in a mojo vacuum ATM. There's none on Wiggle or Jensons for sale....

Both really - but the latter is more elusive. Having said that I did a regular 50km hilly solo ride on Wednesday with 30 something Strava trophies on a beautiful day and felt, well, meh. And there are times when I get out there and I'm powered by angry pills and the red mist comes over..... I want that back!

I struggle with motivation sometimes and when this happens I just lower the bar a little.
I head out for a gentle bimble with no objectives or expectations.
Before I know it some bugger passes me of I find something in my legs I didn't know I had and I'm going full pelt again.
Losing your mojo just happens sometimes but it usually comes back for me when I stop worrying about it.
Sometimes the task of going out and thrashing yourself every ride is not sustainable.

Don't ride. There's plenty of coaches out there (from when I was doing triathlon), who'd say, you know what, if you really don't want to do the session and you want to go and perhaps sit on a beach, or sleep late then do it.

Sure, don't be doing it every week, but what's wrong with once in a while?

How I got my mojo back? Gave up triathlon, realising I was only good at the bike, crashed, broke some ribs, bought new bike. Heaps of motivation now.

Maybe you just need a new bike.

I find the best way to get some Mojo is take a day or two off, particularly if I am carrying a high training load - first ride back do an hour or two of tempo with 30sec bursts (seated surges) every 10 to 15mins and return to tempo immediately afterwards. Next ride I will feel a million bucks :-)

Would a new one for my daughter do? A clean and silent drivetrain is a definite feelgood though.

Yesterday's ride went a fair way to getting mojo back. Although didn't feel that way when I was in the pain amplifier; came good on the final sprint. For coffee.

It's a funny thing that days when I've least felt like riding have produced some of my best rides.

I've found the easiest way to get my mojo back is when a mate tries pass me on an uphill sprint - and then the red mist appears.

Would need a substantial outlay for a new bike to be worth it. Would settle for a new groupset possibly, but my running gear is so good ATM.

Mojo came back after 7 days off the bike with 5 days in the gym. Just strength - mostly upper body & trunk. Go figure. :?
