Podiatry & Cycling

Postby matth » Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:31 pm

I have very high arches and my feet roll out when I run... as a result I go through running shoes at a rate of knots. This is obvioulsy transfered to my cycling, but rather than wearing out my shoes I am finding it hard to get truly comfortable especially over longer distances.

I'm thinking of seeing a podiatrist to see what can be done with orthodics etc, however finding one that has experience with cyclists and has the equipment to allow proper analysis is proving difficult. I have found one that has done some work with cyclists biut I need to provide my own trainer (which I don't have)... I was thinking a specialist that has all the equipment would be more likely to be experienced.

Has anyone had experience with this in Adelaide and can recommend a good podiatrist that has everything they need and I just need to bring my bike and shoes ?

Maybe try the AIS - if anyone would know it would be them (IMO).

Apart from that, no idea.

Matth, there are physios specialising in cycling at SportsMed. You could call them and see if any of their podiatrists specialise too. From a quick look at their website there is one with a personal interest in cycling and another in triathlon. (I have no affiliation!)

Mine do the oppposite - they roll in (pronate). I use orthotics in my bike shoes. Carbon fibre ones. 8)

I was recommended a podiatrist to go see by Steve Hogg. It has helped with knee and hip issues. Not cheap. I also use them (a different set) in my runners and street shoes.
