only while sustained climbing.
I can ride for hours without any issues, but if I am on a sustained climb of more than 20min I get numb *parts*.

You do some standing while climbing don't you?, give the boys some fresh air and bloodflow.
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.
