got gouche rashHey ppl,
Im quite new to riding and as my fitness improves my rides have been getting longer, which has caused me to get quite a sore gouche to the point where I cant go for a ride untill it heels, which is quite fustrating cause it limits me to ride two or three times a week, I have tried Vaseline doesnt seem to help I ride a giant defy with the standard giant seat should i change the seat or get new knicks my current ones have seat padding, I have no idea been a newbie to it all so any advice will help Cheers!!!
Re: got gouche rashThere can be several reasons for getting abrasions in that area.
Bike fit: If the saddle is too high it causes you to rock from side to side just fractionally, increasing the chance of saddle sores. The front of the saddle too high, same problem. The saddle should be just about level. Wrong size saddle: the saddle should be wide enough so that your weight is supported on your sit bones. Wearing undies under your padded knicks can cause problems as these often have a stitched seam that will cause abrasions. If the cause is none of the above, a seat with a cut out centre section can often relieve these problems, and if all else fails Aussie butt cream liberally applied.
Re: got gouche rashI find the but cream is the best. You want an anti fungal Rash cream. Or even nappy Rash cream.
My seat can't be level. If you lean forward to reach the bars your seat should actually nose down a bit to relieve that area.
Re: got gouche rash
I found those seats to be the worst for saddle soreness. Bum cream and a fizik Airone on my roadie and a fizik gobi on my mtn bike works for me
Re: got gouche rashAs a unicyclist, irritation of the groin is the common bane. Though with time I have toughened up a lot, I still have to give some attention from time to time.
I use, when needed, Resolve in a squeeze tube. It is available from chemists for around $15 from memory which is far better than some of the snake oils directed at the trendy-cyclist market. There are two variants. You'd need to check with the pharmacist, but my recollection is that one includes an antigungal and one includes a silicone based sealant of some sort, which needs to be put on only after the skin has dried well, not immediately after stepping out of the shower. Unicyclist's don't need a training wheel

Re: got gouche rashInvesting in a decent pair of bibs or nicks is also a must!
I started out in a pair of cheapy no name nicks and after buying a few pairs of high quality bibs its made a huge difference. I dont use any of the bum creams etc.
Re: got gouche rashNobody else has said it yet...
BROOKS saddle A good slather of Bepanthen nappy rash cream won't go astray either. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: got gouche rash
+1 this stuff is the best, $6 a tube, lasts forever, put in when dry, or just before a ride, rash is gone in the morning, I have used on pushy, jetski, dirt bike, and when at feild days selling equipment for 4 days in 40 deg heat, dont leave home without. however, after dropping 15+ kg, I have not required, there is now a gap between my thighs that has not been there for a while.
