BNA Losers Club 2012
Postby iMad » Sun Mar 11, 2012 5:21 pm
This year there isn't one for some reason, and following a brief discussion with Comedian, I decided to have a crack at kicking off a new one even though we're into the 3rd month.
There are few sporting disciplines where power to weight ratio are as important as cycling.
So here we go guys. Let everyone know your health and cycling goals for 1012.
I'll kick off.
Age: 67
Was 127kg in November 2011. Now 103.
First ride in November 2011, 6km (of hell). Now 30km.
Cycling goal this year: 6,000km. Covered so far 717km. Rain, rain and more rain.
Weight goal this year: 87kg
Is anyone else interested in contributing? Remember sharing your achievements like this isn't just for yourself, It just might be the motivation someone needs to improve their health and lifestyle for good.
Reason: corrected year in title
Those that have crashed and those that are about to.

Was 116kg in July 2011. As of today 92.2kg
First ride in July 2011, 5km. Now anywhere between 20 and 60km depending on time before or after work and on weekends. Try to do at least 50km on a Sunday.
Cycling goal this year: 6,000km. Covered so far: See my sig.
Weight goal this year: 85kg which will give me a BMI under 25.

We moved house just before Christmas and I can't find the scales. Bit hard to contribute other than I think I was 112-115kgs on the 1/1/2012. I'd gotten out to 118kgs 2 years ago, then dropped 15kgs with some bike commuting. Last year I fell off the wagon and stopped commuting and kept eating the same and put most of it back on.
I'm 37yo, 188cm and have a sedentary job and two kids. Goal for me in 2012 would be 90-something and to make regular riding and eating more healthiy a habit. I was 85 kgs just out of school when I was in the Army Reserves and that's probably the fittest and skinniest I've ever been.
Longer term, I'd love to get back into the 80's again and be able to ride 100kms in 3 hours.

Now I'm about 5000km down the track and 74Kg.
All my trousers are so baggy I'm going to have to replace them, doing the belt up a bit tighter isn't cutting the mustard anymore!
I haven't just lost the weight, I've continued to lose centimetres around the waste, which is normal if the weight loss is down to exercise as well as diet.
I have altered my eating habits a bit and cut down on my alcohol consumption too, so it's a holistic approach and I'm very happy with the results.
I haven't cut anything out but I'm going for quality not quantity.
*edit* After going to the TDU and getting smashed on the hills, my goal is to get a few more Kgs off (5?) for next January. Well that's a plan anyway.

I just went to Rodd & Gunn to get new outfits as well. It's expensive getting fat.

Weight at time of accident - 84kg.
Weight in October 2011, attempting to return to cycling - 90kg.
Weight 01JAN2012 - 89kg.
Weight goal this year is to get my weight down to 70-something, and stabilise there. Basic strategy has been to calorie count, using MyFitrnessPal. Cycling goal has been 500km/month (although I haven't hit that yet, stymied by weather, illness, and work).
Weight at 01MAR2012 - 82kg. Everything is heading in the right direction, and I'm feeling good. Can definitely tell the difference on the hills. Will be getting back into racing again this month too...
Cheers,
Abby

Oooops, sorry to hear about your accident but you're on the way back.Abby wrote:Had a bad accident back in October 2010 - bike vs little old lady in white Corolla. The Corolla won... Took about 12 months to recover and get back on the bike (broken shoulder and arm, plus multiple surgeries).

Great work with the weight loss and I'm suffering much the same as you with a goal of 500km/month, but unfortunately the rain up here has been relentless.

Long term goal is 110kg, by long term I mean 12 months. Ideally 100kg.
Have cut back on beer, no drive through foods, no baked pastry stuff, pies etc, added fruit everyday, no packets of chips. I try to make a change in my diet every fortnight.
First ride was 6km, then 10, then 12 etc now doing 20. Longest was 25. Looking for people to ride with to help with motivation. Also looking for new places to ride.
Had to stop for two weeks as wife was sick and I had to take on more work as well as looking after the daughter, will be back on the bike tomorrow!

You're off to a start and that's the most important thing... making the decision to do it and sticking with it.
You've also come to the right place for motivation and help. This forum, and the people that live here, are unbelievably helpful.
What do they say? "Every journey, begins with the first step."

I plan to be 79 or 80kg for Sydney Olympic Distance, its about 4 weeks away and that's plenty of time, so I'll be back on the wagon on Monday.
Well done everyone, I appreciate reading the stats!

Height---187cm
2010--------105k......40" waist
....
....
2012-------79kg......30" waist
My riding has stayed consistent over the entire period so I would have to confidently say my weight loss was all diet related.
Has cost me a fortune in clothing as I had to replace everything. I have 20+ cycling jerseys/bib knicks in XXL/XL/L if anybody wants them just PM me.

Well done. What did you mean when you said your riding was consistent due to being diet related? I think I missed something.ZepinAtor wrote:My riding has stayed consistent over the entire period so I would have to confidently say it was all diet related.

Thanks iM. I will edit my message to say the weight loss was all diet related & not due to an increase in exercise/cycling.iMad wrote:Well done. Looking back at the entire period (2010-2012) I can't believe how simple it was.
The important thing for me now is to stay this way with the changes to my diet being permanent & not just a weight loss period.
Well done to everybody else on here with some amazing results being posted up.

Your story sounds so familiar. I'm shorter and was lighter but its the same story different stats. I've lost 20% and started with 6km rides thinking how hard it was and how big an achievement it was, I then increased my mileage and thought about how pathetic 6km was etc. It's only recently, now that I am helping a friend get into it that I have realised that those 6km and 20km rides were achievements and they are important so don't ever think they are anything else.
Also it is easy to get intimidated with everyone talking about their big rides etc but they are just further down the road and all excited about their achievements.
Have you managed to find a group to ride with or some riding buddies?
Good luck with it!
