The fitness/fatness issue

This article was on RN's Health Report 28/01/2013, http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/pro ... fe/4407748Basically it says "...new evidence on the benefits of exercise, how it extends lives and how being fit overwhelms being fat..."

While no expert, I find it amazing that almost all effort goes into navel searching over diet, soft drink and junk food, while any programs about activity get lip service.
While cycling is only one form of activity/excercise, you would think that by facilitating cycling to those who can and otherwise would (lycra or not), the saving in public health costs would make it self funding or better.
The above article and conclusions are not a one off, over the last decade other studies in journals have directly and anecdotely come to similar conclusions.
You have to wonder whether goverments and their advisers ever read any of these articles, or do they just get research from New Idea.
