Firstly, I wouldn't race. Looks gross.
Secondly, I'm pretty concerned about those slippers. Definitely not something that should be photographed again. Buy new ones

Nonetheless, such footwear should not be exposed to the public gaze.

No racing for you. The last wounds I had on my leg cause the whole thing to swell up like crazy, more than yours by a mile. Better to take it easy and recover properly. You can always enter other races.

But did you race?! FWIW I'm a cycling nurse...jules21 wrote:i'm on antibiotics
To everyone else, valid concerns but it really depends. Some antibiotics are much milder than others, even IV versions. I dont think jules would have scored anything too brutal looking at that leg. And by having IV you actually shorten the required course in some situations and skip some of the side effects of the oral route. Definitely go on how you actually feel rather than how you think you should feel.

You only skip the gastrointestinal side effects with the intravenous route - the systemic effects remain and in some cases can be worse. Putting someone on intravenous antibiotics is not a trivial matter as you are aware.petie wrote:But did you race?! FWIW I'm a cycling nurse...jules21 wrote:i'm on antibiotics

The side effects of the treatment notwithstanding, no doctor would have told the OP that it was ok to race while being actively treated with intravenous antibiotics and particularly not with the degree of swelling (and by implication slow response to treatment) apparent in the last photograph.
Regardless, those slippers should have been grounds for immediate disqualification.

The problem is (apart from aesthetics) that they aren't SlipPerD-SL equipped .jules21 wrote:i tried to race, but they disqualified me when they saw my slippers

after another week's rest and back on antibiotics, it's looking much better. i have another week's course of pills, then the doc reckons i will be cured.
lessons learned:
1. take their advice seriously, the first time. these things need to be zapped properly, or they will come back and you will delay your recovery.
2. rest up while you are zapping the infection - don't be a hero and go out on your bike.
3. drink heaps of water. antibios seem to be one hell of a diuretic.
4. go back to the doc to check that you are healed - don't self-examine your leg and decide that it looks good enough. if the infection is not killed, it come back again.
5. antibios are a good way to lose weight, as you are supposed to not eat anything for up to 2 hours before taking a pill. 4 pills a day = instant diet.

Overuse and over prescription is another matter, which ends up helping the bugs again, and comes back to bite us.
