Will stick with it till I head away for the TDF ... being a vegie is hard enough in France, let alone being a vegan ... I expect I will be back as a vegan after July though. It does seem to work for me rather well.
Knowing me I will probably have a caffeine hit before races... but the amount will be half of what I used to take I expect, having cut out my 3 or 4 coffees a day.
Might do a food diary to know the ratios... but I would think I am sticking roughly to the 80 10 10 ratio.

PS... can you call it a diet when you eat much more than normal ?

That is some serious will power there cutting out the coffee 8)

Going from 3-4 coffees a day to 0 must of brought on some headaches and crankiness. :)

last time i took a break from coffee the headaches passed fairly quickly but i had probably a full week when i was sleeping 12hrs+ per day, napping every afternoon, extremely lethargic and otherwise pretty much non-functional. pretty horrible stuff. would not recommend.

once i was clean i noted no real benefits so after a month or so i just went back to drinking coffee again...

The coffee was just a habit, I didn't start drinking coffee at all till I lived in France... so the first couple of days weren't that bad.
Cutting out the dairy was interesting... I ate way too much cereals which meant quite a lot of milk. If I got hunger cravings I could demolish 2 or 3 big bowls of weetabix or fruitnfibre  . Plus French cheese is pretty yummy!.
Now it is banana/blueberrie/date smoothies pretty much during the day. Probably 10-12 bananas a day... the smoothies are so yummy you don't get bored with them. If I was single I could probably go the same at night but my wife wouldn't be impressed. But she loves the vegan dahls, curries, chillis and korma's... sometimes with rice. Also big bowls of tomatoes and palm hearts etc.
Just wanted to try something different , inspired by Zep and Durian, although not to the extremes that one of them goes  .

I love coffee also so respect to anyone who has the strength of purpose to cut it out.

Lately I've started eating a few dried apricots and dates for snacks. What are they likely to do weight wise?

A few things to keep in mind about dried fruits:
  • Per gram there is more sugar in it than for an unhydrated fruit as all that loss mass is only water, it still has all the sugar and other stuff.
  • I am told that fruit can be dried IN sugar. I don't understand the process except that I envision that they put the fruit in a dry sugar vat for a time.
  • To add further insult, it is also not unknown for manufacturers to add extra sweetening to snack-type dried fruit in the form of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).
End result regardless is that the sugar content per mass is greater than normally hydrated and this will be indicated on it's packaging where consumer law requires it to be.

Some people mistakenly attribute to dried fruits the status of healthy and natural. Best to assume that dried fruits are NOT going to be to your advantage as far as sugar goes.

If they add HFCS, it has to be listed. So bottom line, read the ingredients list.

TBH and I determined to give up coffee for June, which is going well. And alcohol...which isn't going so well. though probably cut it in half.
lost 1kg as of this morning. not missing coffee at all...though did have headaches earlier this week.

am making heaps of vege soups with the cooler weather, which is a great way to eat more plants, and lose Cals.

Coffee. Meh. I don't have worry about the stuff. I don't drink it. For something that smells so good it tastes like s##t.

You need to find the right barista mate, well pulled shots are as sweet as the first time your kid manages to climb onto your lap for a cuddle.

If you are happy without it then stay away from it.
I'd much rather a coffee than a beer these days and the problem with that is that you can drink coffee anytime.

I don't drink much beer these days either. I think I would be lucky to of drink a 6 pack in the last 6 months.

Don't blame me for your craziness :?

Seriously though I feel giving up something you really enjoy does take will power & inner strength.

Another way of looking at it in reverse is visualise the person you want to be & work back to where you are now, then implement the changes required to do so. If you don't know how to implement the changes....read, look, learn, experiment. Determination & focus are fundamental elements in this process.

This works for lots of things - because if you keep that vision in mind, defining it, refining it and holding it as a clear compelling vision of what you want to to be, or where you want to end up, or what you want to achieve then every tiny insignificant choice you make will be filtered through the question .... 'Does this get me closer to my goal, or at least put me in a better position from which to move closer to it?'

You may never achieve your ideal, but that doesn't matter as long as you end up closer to it than you started off.

After too much booze over christmas, I did no alcochol for feb fast, march madness and april (no particular reason)... easy. I tried quitting coffee for a month and didn't make it to the end of the month. Coffee is way harder for me.
