Suspected adductor strain?

Postby g-boaf » Sun Aug 25, 2013 8:25 pm

I've got what I suspect is a strained adductor muscle or worse.

I can walk okay - but cannot lift my leg up. I'm keeping it elevated and resting, along with compression which is helping a lot.

I don't remember feeling anything going wrong, it was just after my ride yesterday it became a bit painful. Shame because I was riding better than in a long while.

Anyone got any further suggestions apart from rest and what I'm doing already?

I wish I hadn't gone for physio, it is feeling more sore than it did to start with.

But I can at least lift the leg properly now. I'll give it two weeks rest.

I have been hammering mine a lot lately ... lots of very steep mtb climbs. Butt and back of legs a bit tender, I made the mistake of not doing this before CX season last year!.
What did the physio do to loosen them up?.

I lot of massaging with a lot of pressure over the sore area. Up and down and also sort of circular patterns from the front of the leg down over the affected muscle.

I'm sitting in the train now with it feeling a bit sore - but hopefully it will ease tonight.

I've been trying to ride at a higher intensity recently and some of that might have been to blame.

I know why it is so sore now - where she was doing her work, there is now a bruise. I can now lift my leg though.

I do have a foam roller - it is good. I'll take it easy though and make sure I don't get any more setbacks. I'm pretty competitive and motivated. Try not to look at the bikes in the living room too much. They are a temptation. ;)

Nurofen will free up your movement and reduce the pain, but extend your healing time.

I seem to be getting better. I did a 20km ride this morning with a couple of sprint efforts when I saw the shadow of a bird on the ground behind me (it didn't swoop me). Mostly my speed was between 28-36km/h average.

It was feeling a bit sore - but I can walk around quite okay this afternoon without any bother at all - movement is okay.

20km is more than I could have done previously. I'm going to take it easy for the next four or five days and see I how I go then.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have been using Nurofen (the gel) a little bit (only for the first day) and it did help reduce the pain.
