Currently 58-59 kg (for about 12 months now) down from 65 about 4 years ago.
Would like to get to 55-56 to improve riding up hills.
Isn't going to be easy as I want it to be a long-term sustainable change.
I like my treats and can't realistically spend more hours on the bike.
So need to up the intensity (more hills!) and cut back a bit on the worst dietary choices.
So far this year I have not made much progress, but maybe a bit. It is always hard to judge because for small weight changes the day-to-day reading can be influenced by hydration and time of the month.

I've dropped 3 kg so far this year so now at 106kg so a modest start. I'd like to get back into my correct weight / BMI range so below 80 kg. most of my adult life I have been 74 kg or less and that would be my ideal goal.
But first things first I need to get down to below 100 kg.

Last time I weighed myself I was 136kgs. I am aiming to loose some weight this year. I was thinking of a very slim target of say 115kg. Haven't been this light in nearly 30 years so it will be like rewinding the clock to when I was 17.
My plan is simple enough. I am in a Medicare Local program for weight management, although my wife tells me I am the thinnest in the group, I went to a daytime program on nutrition and exercise program, now I am in a once a week exercise program under this system. I purchased a 250mm dinner plate and use this instead of the current 315mm and I am aiming when I get more brave shortly to cut this plate size to 225mm soon the difference doesn't sound much until you do the area calculations. In addition to this I am dedicated to riding at least 60 kms per week mostly commuting to and from work. Last week I managed 88 km, this week I have had more work commitments requiring the car so only managed 45km so far so need to ride a few places over the weekend.

I'm into stretch targets so am aiming for 75 by year end. I was that about 4 years ago...prior to that it was when I was about 20...then the sporting injuries started being restrictive

I'm in
i started off in January last year at 130kg, now i'm at 92 aiming to be around 80 - 85 by july ish then 75 by December. Only a small target but when you've already done nearly 40 it's a big one to get your body burning fat again.

It's up to you really. Some people do a weekly check in, some monthly or irregular. A format that some posters use might be:Toolish wrote:Alright, now that I am part of the club, what does that mean?
1/1/14 92kg
1/2/14 90kg
1/3/14 88kg... etc

I was pretty complacent the last year and a half in respect to weight loss. I made big inroads to upping my bike time and even took on a training schedule mid last year. My focus is track, and so I have been spending time on the weights to increase strength as well as increasing bike fitness. Back in 2012, I had hit 120kg, down from 140kg+ in 2010. Over the last year and a half, with the increase workload, I had kept level at 120kg, but had traded a lot of body fat for muscle. So turning into 2014, I have made a point of eating better. No diets, just watching what I eat more diligently. So far, since Aust day long weekend, I have dropped from just over 120kg to the current 115.7 this morning. But, this year, I want to make some strength gains and am wondering if that may mean I have trouble descending the scale. We will just have to wait and see, but I have high hopes!

If you are dropping fat and building muscle then the scales will not be your friend! A better measure would be a tape measure and measure your waist. http://www.measureup.gov.au/internet/ab ... +myself-lp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;brawlo wrote:But, this year, I want to make some strength gains and am wondering if that may mean I have trouble descending the scale. When it comes to waist, Increased risk is more than 94 centimetres for men and Greatly increased risk is more than 102 centimetres for men (although this does not seem to be corrected for height).
If you can get your weight up or stable and drop your waist measurement, you are doing really well.

Yep, I'm aware of that one. Many moons ago when I was lifing really heavy while I was at uni and had 6 days a week to train in the gym, I learnt to ignore the scales and trust the tape measure.casual_cyclist wrote:If you can get your weight up or stable and drop your waist measurement, you are doing really well.
I dropped 2 belt notches while I stayed steady at 120kg, but I am also aware of cycling being a power to weight ratio sport, and so I really do need to drop the weight. Or at least increase my strength, or even better do both!
The Norwegian guy I bought my track frame off has gone from 115kg 2 years ago down to 92kg at 6'4" and thought he'd be skin and bone at 100kg. He's also lifting almost 50% more than he was at 115kg, so big gains in strength. So this guy has me thinking I should be looking at closer to 100kg (I'm 6'5"), although I'm going to be modest with my goal at this stage.

I did have a very energetic weekend with riding, swimming and then my Mrs deciding roses would be nice to grow so had to become a human excavator to get the (massive) holes dug and filled with newly mixed soils to replace the sand we typically have in the garden.
Look it may be true muscle weighs more than fat, but I dont totally buy the scales arent accurate enough. I went on a paid diet system a few years back and lost 10 kilograms in 3 months. What I did notice was in the weeks where work prevented me doing as much exercise at high intensity I was dropping very little, at one stage only a few hundred grams in a week. However in the last week, I had committed to loose more, so I took a weeks leave and spent most of the day exercising. At this point I had been exercising regularly for 11 weeks. In this one week I dropped 2.5 kilograms. I was going to the gym in the morning doing a spin class (if there was one that day), going to the gym and doing a workout, going home, making lunch and having it with my Mrs and then going to the pool and doing about an hour in the pool. So if anything I would have been putting more muscle on at this stage (I would have thought), yet my weight loss was greatest in that week.
Unfortunately the diet was quite restrictive and I was not able to continue with it. But it definitely worked. The Medicare Local system is quite different and I am not yet sold one way or the other on its benefits. Ask me at the end of the year.

After getting down to 106 a couple of years ago I am back up to 122Kgs, which is really not good.
My goal is to get out on the bike a lot more (when I ride I loose weight, who would have guessed ) and get down to double digits. At my lightest as an adult I was about 90Kgs (and looking at the photos it is hard to remember being that skinny!), but I would settle for anything between 90 and 100....

88kg would love to get back to mid 70's but at 6'0 and 45 that's probably unrealistic so hope to get to 85 by april for the new season and below 82 by years end.
Ill weigh in every Friday morning.....

I got down to 105kg back in early 2012, but went overseas for several months and stopped riding.
I've just got the old girl out and have been trying to build up my endurance for the last 3 weeks or so.
I was 141kg 3 weeks ago, I haven't lost mush, now I'm 138kg. But I'm able to cover 12km in a single ride. I used to commute 27km to work 2 1/2 years ago. I want to get well up over this distance over time.
I'm 58 and retired, so plenty of time available. I did 5000km in 2011, I'd like to pass that this year. Like some others, I have a problem eating too much and I do brew my own beer which doesn't help.
But even doing 12km I am getting the old riding feeling back! There's no reason I can't make 120kg this year.
