I ate McDonalds

Postby mikesbytes » Tue May 27, 2014 10:11 pm

I ate McDonalds tonight, it was called something like a McSpicey, which I think was some form of chicken and contained real lettuce. I was fatigued from training so went for the high calorie option of large chips and a large coke, to spike my blood insulin levels. It's rare that I buy a meal that includes chips and softdrink and even rarer that I eat at McDonalds

What was interesting was that I felt satisfied having eaten it but an hour later I was hungry again, so it would seem that it was too HiGi

I get some weird cravings after long rides. Maccas is one of them. There are only so many 'best pie/tart/slice in Australia' bakeries you can eat at on a country ride after all.

Having jumped off that bandwagon recently, a McSpicy is one of the few things that makes me want to go get macca's. On the flipside, I have very little doubt if I ate it now I would feel average afterwards.

It tastes pretty good. The food manufacturers put a lot of science into making sure that it interacts to give pleasure while your eating it but to have the pleasure go away quickly so you have to go back for more

You could sub the chips for the salad and the soft drink for black coffee or water. That should bring down the calorie intake to a level suitable for a highly active cyclist

I havent eaten at macca's since 98. Just learning about how the company does business and is responsible for the greatest cause of deforestation on the planet made me not want to support them.

Im confident I would be obese now if I didnt change my dietary choices. I love food too much to calorie restrict and I prefer eating over cycling.
Vegan since 2001.

Yeah, I don't get the whole "hungry again after 1 hour" thing. I realise it is part of the anti-processed matra, that it is designed to make you hungry again, but hosently I don't get it. If I have a decent meal - say 1000 Cal in big macs and mcchickens or whatever, I'm usually good for a few hours. If I have 1000 Cal of porridge (my usual breakfast: 100g of oats + 100g semolina boiled in 1/2 litre of milk and 1 litre of water) I also eat again a few hrs later. If I have 1000 Cal of abasically nything I'll be eating again in 3 hrs. I always eat 1000Cal every 3 hrs or so during the day. So anyway, I don't eat very much maccas, but I like some of the things, feel fine after eating it, keeps me going for a few more hrs :)

You ate Maccas and lived to tell the tale! I'm impressed.

My story is that I have not eaten Hungry Jacks since August 1999. A chicken burger and onion rings made my violently ill. I have never gone back and never will. Their burgers are not always better.

Lightweight - I ate KFC a couple of months ago. Very occasionally I get weird hankerings for it and other similarly repugnant things (Spam and Casinos are other examples). I think it works in a similar way to immunisation boosters, like your body/soul need the occasional reminder of what they’re fighting against.

So..... KFC for dinner tonight it was. GLW was out at a work function, junior_no_pro had been behaving herself and asked nicely for chippies for dinner with daddy, which we haven't done for ages. And apart from the significant amount of excess salt (been so long I forgot to tell them to go easy on it), it was unhealthily good

Disregarding the fact I had an entire days worth of calories for dinner of course

Their food, especially the buns, are full of sugar which will make you hungry again not long after eating. That's why the 1000 calories of Maccas will not fill you up.

My story is that I haven't been to Maccas since 1980. There's plenty of better food out there. My daughter has been to Maccas but not until she was 16 and not with us. My partner has never been to Maccas!

Exactly, food that is laced with sugar that makes it taste good and you feel good for a short time afterwards. Then you feel hungry again

I honestly cant say that was the case in this instance. I didn't even consider eating again after dinner last night, which is unusual for me.

I reckon that's a myth. Not the buns full of sugar - that' seems true, but eat 1000 Cal at maccas and I don't feel hungry shortly after. I feel normal. You believe hard enough and anything is true for you :)

Meanwhile, Australian obesity rates are climbing faster than anywhere else in the world. 75-80% of middle aged men in Australia are overweight!

In a way I agree with you that 1000 kcals should full you up no matter where it comes from, even of you feel sick. My personal theory on this is that all the sugar makes you spike and all the salt makes you very thirsty... So you start to crave very quickly when the blood sugar levels start dropping and you mistake your thirst for hunger ( pretty common problem ) ... So you eat again.

That's a good point. I think sometimes people do mistake thirsty for hungry and eat when they really need to drink. To test, all you need to do is have a big glass of water. If your hunger goes away, you were thirsty, not hungry. I wish I could remember to do this.
