Been doing about 200km a week and got a new (used) bike which helps to rack up the km's. Today did North St Marys to Bella Vista (M7 Cycleway, 42.5km round trip) and return in under 2 hours for the first time ever. For some this would be really slow but for me its an achievement.
That's excellent work, fishy. I started a bit lighter than you, and a bit earlier, and I seem to have stalled around the 102kg mark for the last few weeks.

I have a few cycling-related things that I want to accomplish - and an obvious one is to get below 100kg. (Or as a mate calls it, "point one of a ton".) I will have to make a big effort between now and Christmas!!

Time for an update for me. Progress seems to have slowed, so I haven't posted for a while. I'm now thinking that that might be the wrong way to go about this, and by posting it will encourage me to keep going:

Date Height Weight Waist BMI WtHR
06/01/2017 189.5 108.2 112 30.13 0.59
25/01/2017 189.5 107.8 111 30.02 0.59
16/02/2017 189.5 106.8 110 29.74 0.58
03/04/2017 189.5 105.9 107 29.49 0.56
01/06/2017 189.5 105.3 106 29.32 0.56
13/07/2017 189.5 104.6 105 29.13 0.55
07/08/2017 189.5 103.7 105 28.88 0.55
04/09/2017 189.5 102.1 104 28.43 0.55

22/11/2017 189.5 101.6 103 28.29 0.54

I'd really like to be <100kg by Christmas, so I will see how I go.

Nice work Robert, looks like whatever you're doing is working perfectly and you're on track to hit your chrisy goal. I'm going for sub 80kg by the new year which may be a bit optimistic but can probably happen with a bit of a sweat fest on weigh in day.

This is my last month, last week I've been a bit more serious and had no breakfast and just a shake for lunch. 1 meal a day is tough at times but damn dinner tastes good.

Just be careful that you keep the weight loss sustainable and don't end up putting it back on again. No breakfast and a shake for lunch seems a bit risky.

At least have a bowl of oats for breakfast, something to keep you going and avoid the temptations of dipping into snacks mid morning, and offset it with a bit more riding.

Yes, your weight is going down, but I'm still a bit wary of that approach.

Yeah we'll see. This is just the first week. I'm probably still 10kgs out from a good cycling weight so it seems unlikely it would be a problem medically speaking - more just what I can put up with or makes me moody/poor concentration.

Another update for me, 2 weeks on. Not a very convincing trend the past 2 weeks, but looks like things are still okayish. The big spikes are the weekends where I eat quite a bit and then it takes a few days to settle back down. Going to be a big battle continuing over Christmas break... My wife found a notepad of my weight in 2015 that i had recorded as 94 kg, so that's pretty cool. I'd mostly forgotten I'd gotten to that weight. Also our cat has put on 2kg in that time!!

I also set a pr on my main benchmark climb on the weekend so I think that's a very good sign I'm doing something right.

14 days since last post.

Waist 78 cm down 1cm (but I think I may have misread the marking earlier and been 78 cm earlier).
WHtR 0.451

65.9 kg, up 0.2
BMI 22.0

Been pretty static for a about a month, which is a change for me. Probably a good thing considering I'm only marginally over what I'd consider to be ideal weight of about 63 to 64 kg. While most of the general population would still view me as underweight.

From 1st Jan, 2017:
Nobody wrote:History from Sept 2013:
Waist 90cm, WHtR 0.52
82kg, BMI 27.4

Today:
Waist 73.5 cm, WHtR 0.425
60.7 kg, BMI 20.3

Maintenance Goal:
Waist < 74.4cm, WHtR < 0.43...
Well that went really badly for me on paper at least. Since my waist has blown out by about 4 cm and weight by about 5 kg over my maintenance goal. In reality, it's not as bad as it looks. I'm still lighter than this ideal weight calculator says for my height and age. But I'm still heavier than I'd like to be. The story is I had a head-on collision on a bike path and my elbow got a soft tissue injury in about July. Took about 4 months to heal. Consequently I spent more time lifting to mainly help the elbow heal and chase some strength goals. Diet also changed to help with weight gain combined with far less riding.
Since I got to one of my two strength goals, I'm ready to lose a couple of kg and some waist size this year.

So how did everyone else go last year?

Anyone else want to start the 2018 thread?

Well, I didn't get below 100kg by Christmas. Who'd have thought - no weight loss through December?!?!

But I didn't gain any, so I'm happy.

I'm not really sure what sort of "goals" to set, but I'm happy to be involved in 2018. I think that reading this forum and regularly reporting my progress helps me stay on track.

started and finished 2017 in the high 80kg's.
got down to 83kg in the middle when in the USA.
came to accept stress is my major hurdle to maintaining stable appetite...which leads to moderate alcohol and bad food choices. and this can never be burned off by exercise.

my optimal weight is ~75kg.
started the new year with a 7 day water fast, which is going well after 2.5 days.
main resolutions: alcohol free 2018, at least 5 cups of vegetables/day.

My goal was 78kg albeit date was july. That is 20kg loss since christmas 2016. One jerry can less I am dragging up the hills.

I am back at up to 80kg which is what I figured would happen. Same waist measurement. I am going to see if I can get to a steady 75kg this year.

Hi all,

Back in March of last year I was 125.5kg and could barely manage 20km rides in comfort.
I had previously (10 years ago) dropped a lot of weight and taken up cycling which helped me maintain a reasonably healthy weight and level of fitness for some time.
Over the last 4 years I had couple of setbacks; I injured my shoulder which prevented me from cycling as much as I had, and after a long slow recovery and when finally getting some semblance of fitness back I got a lung infection that went on, and on, and on....
However I was always an 'unhealthy' eater - mindlessly snacking and surrounded by high fat, and very delicious foods all of the time due to my job.

Earlier this year I started working with a health clinic and have been working on dropping weight, returning to cycling and being more active generally. Mostly I have worked with a psychologist to help me get a more sensible relationship with food.

As of this morning I am 87kg, and just completed my first century ride (metric) in a long time.

I have a few more kg to go, and have a plan to increase my fitness at the same time (I want to ride the alps in 2019); I also need to stay mindful of what I do - but so far, so good!

Cheers
Phil

Nice story "chef"! It's got to be tougher for those in a commercial kitchen.

Do you mind sharing the health clinic you've been working with?

Been AWOL from here for about half the year now.

Despite cycling twice the distance I did last year, I managed to lose a rather paltry 3kg for the year, down from 98kg to 95kg. Due, of course, to diet.

New year, new approach!

Congrats to all those that managed to lose as well!

No problem; They are called 'Dale Health' - they operate in Midland and Subiaco http://weight-loss.dalehealth.com.au

I can't speak highly enough of them; I have been through a fairly tough time personally during the time I have been with them and have been supported above and beyond.

Have dropped another kg since my last post despite taking time 'off' the diet over my new year break - will start measuring waistline and posting in the 2018 thread when I get around to buying a tape measure!

Cheers
