27/2/2017
Weight 100.6
BMI 30.4
WtHtr 108/182= 0593

Am I doing this waste measurement right?
Across the belly button 108cm
2.5-3cm above the belly button as describe at the beginning 104cm
Where my belt actually sits which is about 3cm below belly button 101cm
I would of thought the biggest measurement as most relevant as that is what I want to lose!!

If you want to give a comparison point for others, then the correct measurement is 104cm since it's at the correct spot. Obviously for personal use you can track whatever you want. If 108cm is what you want to lose, then keep a track of it too. I measure multiple places on occasion when using a body fat percentage calculators to get an idea of where I'm at.

Cool I will start using this measurement. The belly button and waist measurements were about the same when I started so happy to be improving. The spare tyre is looking rather attractive NOT!!! :D

February check-in!

Started this journey mid-2014 at 114.5kg.

As of 2017:
12/2016: Weight = 98kg, WtHR=0.59, BMI=30.93
01/2017: Weight = 98.0kg, WtHR=0.585, BMI=30.93

February 28th:
Weight = 96.5kg (lightest was 95.7kg) (-1.5kg)
WtHR = 40.0*2.54/178 = 0.57 (consider action) (-1")
BMI = 96.5/(1.78^2) = 30.45 (obese)

A bit of a yo-yo month to be honest. Big changes on the home front with Miss 4 starting school and the wife going back to work (new job) for the first time since she was pregnant with Mr 2, and busy times with work for me which has meant more stress, more late nights, less time, and even less sleep (and more alcohol, caffeine and energy drinks). Just starting to work out the new schedule now so hopefully next month will see slightly better results.

The recent acquisition of a fluid trainer (courtesy of a generous forum member) has been a god-send - together with my usual rides I've done 9 sessions on the trainer this month, which I'm pretty proud of. Aside from the 1st session, where I was just getting the feel of it, I've knocked out 10km rides in 30 mins each session. Doesn't sound like much, I admit, but I'm having to push myself to get the distance in under 30 mins. Considering I can ride for a few hours on the road around 20kph quite comfortably it's... interesting... but a topic for a whole new thread.

Finally, saw my GP today for a review on blood tests done in Dec. He was impressed with my weight loss in the last 6 months (he measured a 12kg loss). Almost every result was an improvement on 2 years ago, including, significantly, my blood pressure which, for the first time in as long as I can remember, was actually within 'normal' range! Yah!

Goal is (still) 90kg mid-year!

1.78m tall

31/12/16 - 78.9kg, waist 82cm;
05/01/17 - 78.2kg, waist 81cm;
01/03/17 - 77.6kg, waist 78cm.

A surprising down. I haven't been perfect diet wise, eating to much bread.

However I have managed to get 850km in on the bike this month which must of helped.

3cm is a significant waist reduction for just 600g weight loss! I was surprised when I knocked off 1" (2.54cm) after losing just 1.5kg! :shock:

But I do concur that there's leads & lags and swings & roundabouts...

I have to say it was a bit surprising. But looking in the mirror I can see it.

I have to say though I tend to but on weight like a female with most of it going to my butt and legs. and very little on my belly

Seems like a more responsible GP if he's bothering to record your weight. Most GPs are more medication salespeople and excuse issuers these days. It's not in their interests for you to get really healthy, since they lose regular customers. Mine may be considered a cynical opinion, but the results in the general population speak for themselves.

Blood pressure is a good reason to keep your weight as low as possible. Since according to this site, risk doubles with each 20 mm increase in systolic and 10 mm increase in diastolic, above 115/75. Also every 10 kg of weight can make a 5 to 20 mm difference in systolic BP. Last time my GP measured mine it was 115/65. With my current lifestyle, there should be no reason for those numbers to increase during my lifespan.

He's pretty old school and definitely an advocate of lifestyle changes over medication (unlike my renal specialist who just wanted to medicate immediately). Unfortunately he's already only working a few days per week and I suspect retirement isn't too far from his mind.

Have to say that on this journey of what is now approaching 3 years ( :shock: ) I've really started to notice the difference more-so lately than ever before, and others have too! And I must say that it's great motivation to keep progressing (and of course the cycling itself gets easier/faster/more fun in the process!) I'm enjoying my cycling more than ever, and managing a few extra hours in the saddle thanks to the recent acquisition of a trainer, so as long as I keep my diet in check (it's not particularly strict atm) I should continue to see results.

After a two week break from strict dieting I am surprised to report that in the last week I have shed a kilo and a centimetre. Been nice indulging in boxes of Kara pops and snacks. I continued to abstain from chocolate. The habits I implemented in the previous six weeks are still solid. Have had some reluctance to suffer on the bike. Glad to have sorted that in the last week.

I'm afraid I have to cheat because I've been tracking my weight loss but have just reached a major milestone and felt like sharing.

I don't have WtHR progress because I wasn't measuring when I started.

Male
Height: 178cm
Age:35

18/11/2016
Starting Weight - 135kg
Starting BMI - 42.61

15/3/2017
Current Weight - 100kg
Current BMI - 31.56
Total Loss - 35kg

Target Weight: 80-85kg
Target Timeframe - 31/12/2017

Even though I've lost more than 70% of the weight I want to lose, I only consider myself half way there. The rest of the year is going to be targeted at losing the rest and maintaining it, while improving fitness, endurance and strength.

And before anybody starts:
  • Yes I know it was very rapid
  • Yes I know thats dangerous
  • Yes it was being monitored closely by my doctor
  • Yes I'm working with a dietician to make sure I'm properly nourished

You've earned it - great work!

I'm the same height and have roughly the same target weight. No doubt you'll overtake me soon enough though - I'm doing it a lot more slowly and likely won't quite get there by the end of the year - but I know how much better I've been feeling lately as I approach 95kg and my fitness is also improving. Actually makes riding even more enjoyable too!

Not "officially" weigh-in time for me but reached a major milestone; as of today I've lost 20kg from my starting weight back in mid-2014! A few hiccups along the way; 14 of those 20kg have been in the last 9 months for example.

Somewhat sobering is the realisation that in mid-2014 I looked in the mirror and thought "I could stand to lose a few kilos"... and even today at 20kg lighter - I do exactly the same.

Congratuations, you're below obese and on your way to better health. Just keep in mind that the lighter you get, the more commitment is required to keep losing at the same rate. Your BMR is dropping and the same activity requires less energy. The easiest way to combat this is to adjust the calorie density of your food, rather than just eating less.

That may not change until you start bordering on underweight. I find looking in the mirror with my shirt off is the easiest way to gauge where I'm at. I seem to look my healthiest between BMI 21 to 22 or WHtR between 0.425 and 0.440. For sure anything less than BMI 20 and 0.420 is looking like I need a feed.

Thanks! I'm finding that already - the last few kg have been stubborn. Little by little I've been adjusting my diet and will continue to do so.

I've actually never really been a big believer in the sales, much preferring the mirror. These days I use weight and the other metrics mainly to gauge progress more scientifically and help me deduce what is and isn't working for me. Hopefully I'll get to the point where I'm in maintenance mode and will only occasionally have to weigh myself for a completely objective reality-check! ;)

Stabilised so far, which I'm happy with. Look OK in the mirror. BMI of 21 is in the middle of the band for longevity.

March check-in!

Started this journey mid-2014 at 114.5kg.

As of 2017:
12/2016: Weight = 98kg, WtHR=0.59, BMI=30.93
01/2017: Weight = 98.0kg, WtHR=0.585, BMI=30.93
02/2107: Weight = 96.5kg, WtHR=0.57, BMI=30.45

March 28th:
Weight = 94.9kg (-1.6kg) (lightest was 93.1kg)
WtHR = 40.0*2.54/178 = 0.57 (consider action) (same)
BMI = 94.9/(1.78^2) = 29.95 (overweight!!!) :)

Cool - I am officially no longer medically obese! This month saw me 20kg lighter than my starting weight - for a few days at least! Regardless, the downward trend continues and with the right lighting and angles, I even have abs! Don't know how many inches I've lost off my waist, as I wasn't recording that measurement before this year, but I pulled on my jeans tonight and let's just say I definitely need a belt. Not bad considering at my heaviest, I couldn't even wear them!

Still plenty of motivation to continue; I'm loving doing Zwift workouts on my (dumb) trainer atm. Unfortunately I don't have a supported trainer so I don't really know what my FTP is (would love to find out), but even so I don't need much of an excuse to jump on it these days. And the results seem to be translating to the road as well - I'm leaving my riding buddy in my dust on any sort of incline and I even managed a Strava PR a few days ago despite a headwind! 8) Really enjoying my riding!

My goal is 90kg by mid-year. Having registered for soccer this year (starting this weekend) for the first time in 4 years, and keeping up on the trainer, I'm quietly confident that I'll hit it. That'll be 500g short of a 25kg loss all-up! I wouldn't have thought I had that much to lose back then... and I still won't be finished!
