Been a tough two weeks. No more than a tbsp of sweets per night. Half a baby spoon of sugar in my two morning cappuccinos. Long days at work. Low on energy. Blaar... Urea smelling sweat stopped last week.

No weight loss, but waist is down. It could be due to on-bike breathing exercises. Previously I was having weekly weight fluctuations of 3kg. eg, Fri-85kg, mon-87kg, fri-84kg. These last two weeks only saw a one kilo increase over weekend and kilo loss again by friday. These last couple of kilos are tough.

My goal was 78kg albeit date was july. That is 20kg loss since christmas 2016. One jerry can less I am dragging up the hills.

I thought I was smug because losing weight has actually saved me money, where it seems that people believe it costs money. Well I had to replace my wardrobe contents. All new except for some 30yr old clothes that I never threw out.

Interesting experience, I may divulge some of in the diet thread.

If you have posted in this thread I have been rooting for you. May you also succeed.

I think I'll cross the line at the end of the year where I want to be. Hopefully there'll be others with me.

Had the flu for a couple of weeks. Lost appetite for about a week so didn't eat much. Not much exercise, so probably lost some muscle too.

Looks like I've already achieved my goal for summer of 63 kg and < 0.44 WHtR. So might as well set a new goal of WHtR 0.430. I might not achieve that goal, but at least by having a goal I'm less likely to be gaining.

Some more encouragement to lose weight from a health perspective.
The researchers found that the people who fell into the “metabolically healthy obese” category had a 49 per cent higher risk of having developed heart disease, a seven per cent higher risk of having had a stroke, and a 96 per cent higher risk of having suffered heart failure.

And what many don't appreciate from these "higher risk" conclusion studies is the baseline is already high. So even when you do all you can to lead a healthy life, sht still happens! So why make it worse?!

Well done Patt0!

I'm down about 18kg since my fattest days in mid-2015. I know exactly what you mean about the cost of clothes. I had to replace all of my trousers and shorts, and now I am starting to replace those replacements! I have managed to hang on to a lot of shirts and t-shirts up until now. They have just gone from a tightish fit to a baggy fit - but I will need to replace them soon. After all, what's the point in being slimmer if I am going to hide it under a baggy shirt.

I even had to resize the metal band on my wrist watch.

I must admit that I read the diet thread with a bit of detached amusement, because I feel like a bit of a fraud - I haven't had to do anything like that or try too hard. I've just ridden my bike a lot and stopped eating quite so much junk.

I don't even really have a target weight. Instead, I have some target cycling goals.

One thing that I did was cut down on sugar. It's only a tiny thing, but I went cold turkey from having 2 sugars in tea or coffee to just 1 initially, and now none in coffee. I didn't do it for "sugar is poison" reasons - I did it because I had a bit of a sweet tooth. That sweet tooth was getting sweeter; I'd starting wanting more sugar to make my coffee taste good, and I liked other sweet junk food. Those few teaspoons of sugar in my tea and coffee each day made very little difference by themself but now I don't find myself wanting to eat other sweet stuff. For example, I've barely had a soft drink in months - I just don't want it. Conversely, I've had a mild dose of the flu over the last week, and I really, really wanted a can of coke the other day. So I had one - and it was good : )

Other than cutting on down on eating rubbish, I've also tried to not eat too much. Just a little bit of portion control.

Maybe all of my weight loss so far has been the easy stuff, and maybe it will get harder. On the other hand, I still look in the mirror and see obvious fat around my waist, so I might be able to keep going like this for a while.

For most people it gets harder the closer they get to their ideal weight. Most say they can't shift the last 5 kg. People often blame themselves, I blame the standard diet. Have a look at the links below if you want to have an idea of what your ideal weight might be.

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/ideal-weight-calculator/
https://www.bicycling.com/food/reach-yo ... ing-weight

As for WHtR, so far I believe my ideal measurement is approximately 0.425 to 0.430 (I'm a light to medium build). The middle of the green section of the chart below is 0.450.

Yes, I totally agree. But for some reason it's hard to convince the majority. Yesterday I was trying to convince my son of the need to reduce weight since he is developing back problems. He has a BMI of 37 and a WHtR of 0.6. But at 18 yo he appears unmoved to do anything. We are getting some blood tests done in a couple of weeks. Maybe the results of that might give him cause to think more about what he eats. At his age I was close to the my current weight, but that was 31 years ago in a different era.

Not strong. Calm. Energy is a hard one to gauge. I may be lazier than usual.

I'm not planning on losing much more weight since I've started some mild lifting recently. I'm hoping my waist will come down to WHtR 0.430 by the end of the year. Although I don't want to fall into the trap of losing too much weight this year. Maybe I'll try to keep it above 62 (BMI 20.7). Females seem to be able to function fine with a BMI under 20. At my build between light and medium, I don't fare well under 20. Which always brings me back around to the question of what is my ideal weight. It should be around here somewhere, but I can't pinpoint it yet. I'll take a guess at 62.0 and see what that looks like in the mirror. The calculator in the Bicycling article above says 63. The waist matters more, but I've found it lags weight while I'm losing. I was about this weight as a teenager.

37 days since my last post and I might as well mark the "high tide" on my deliberate weight gain. Since I've got to the point where I'm not comfortable with the way I feel, or look in the mirror. Yet I'm still considered healthy in BMI or WHtR by the authorities, which says something about what our society considers normal. The naturopath I used to see years ago would still consider me underweight by 2 kg.
I've got a couple of months to lose 2 cm off the waist and 2 or 3 kg. I'm not looking to be as light as I was since I've gained some muscle.

Waist 79 cm, up 3
WHtR 0.457
66.7 kg, up 4.2

I had an interesting experience last year. I did an injury that very nearly completely immobilised me for 2 months - think whole days, lying down with a leg elevated, able to get up briefly for essential functions. Even reading at a table was out of the question for more than 10 or 10 minutes due to swelling.

I was understandably concerned about the potential for gaining weight. I had to change my diet, or I was going to just blow up. This is what I did and what happened.

No alcohol, except on Fridays - pub meal, 1 or two schooners of beer. Salad, usually a Caesar.

Breakfast - no Wheat Bix . 1 piece of fresh fruit only, usually an apple or a pear and 1 or two tablespoons of flavoured yoghurt.

Lunch - about 150 grams of canned fish, usually Mackerel (cheap). I happen to like the ones in tomato, with fresh vegetables, usually capsicum, raw cauliflower, broccoli, home-made pickles, fresh raw Jalapeño peppers and a carrot. a small slice of cheese - maybe 6- 8 mm thick, cut off the end of a 1 kg block.

Tea? Reduced evening portion size of whatever we would normally have - about half of what I'd normally eat. Coffee was milked normally with lo-fat milk - I have three cups a day, strong coffee, without a lot of milk. We eat a lot of salads and fresh, vegetables, cooked or raw.

Snacks? Carrots were it. I like fresh, raw carrots. I'd have a couple of fried eggs and 1 piece of toast with no margarine or butter, but with Promite. So I had a couple of treats, in the eggs, the toast, and the beer.

Results?

I thought, but it might have been my imagination, that I was turning slightly orange from all the carrots. I felt very good and didn't have any hunger, or whatever I had, was easily satisfied with a carrot. I never really felt like I was in denial. I enjoyed my brekky, and lunch was quite variable, except for the fish and cheese. I felt good, apart from being terminally bored. There is only so much of interest on television, and I was reading books again. Newspapers were a problem. They are really so much better when reading them or doing the puzzles sitting at a table. My upright time was quite limited.

After 50 or 60 days I weighed myself. I had lost 12 kg, doing nothing at all, almost zero activity. I put it down to the big reduction in carbs and alcohol mainly. Diet makes the largest contribution to weight. The important thing is to not have a sense of denial in changing the diet.

you did well to reel it in like that, and got the rewards.

Seems to be working well at the moment. Still dreaming of <80kg though...

An update is in order.

Started 2nd April 2017 at 141kg.
16/4/17 136kg
30/4/17 133kg
14/5/17 130.3kg
28/5/14 128.3kg

1/10/17 109.5kg
1/11/17 105.6kg
11/11/17 103.9kg

Been doing about 200km a week and got a new (used) bike which helps to rack up the km's. Today did North St Marys to Bella Vista (M7 Cycleway, 42.5km round trip) and return in under 2 hours for the first time ever. For some this would be really slow but for me its an achievement.

Ok my time.
My weight went up from 90kg to 95kg last year. Doing LCHF. Nothing would move in down from 95kg.... Then I started doing 16/8 and now it started to move. Then I tried a 4 day fast..... Of course my weight dropped.

On friday I was listen to a podcast and then they were talking exact what happened to me. Losing weight fast, starts to slow down and eventually stops. Reason. Insulin resistance. I'm now going to have to do small fast to heal that for quite a few months at least. Planning 4 day fast each month at least and one 7 day fast a year.

I'm now my lowest adult weight now. 88.7kg and more to lose still

Looks like I'm now gaining an average of 30g/d instead of 100g/d. Since I'm still slowly gaining strength I can't expect to have my weight remain static. But 30g/d is probably still too much. 10g/d would probably be better considering.

Made some good progress this year, started February at 110kg. Was able to consistently drop 2.5kg per month, achieved 88kg in October. But due to the recent mishap haven’t been to the gym or ride for fitness for nearly 3 weeks now, my diet is also in a mess, would hate to find now where I stand at this moment.
