First Proper MTB Ride

Postby bouncer1979 » Sun Mar 15, 2009 10:18 pm

So after getting around on firetracks for the last 4 months I finally went and did a proper MTB track, namely, Goat Farm.

Jesus I know what it is all about. It was like playing B Grade club rugby and then having the Broncos slap you on the arse and say "Go get em tiger".

Absolutely awsome. I decided it was like rock climbing as coming down was just as hard as going up. Learnt a lot though for my first time and for those who are as naive (spell?) as I was here are some pointers.

1. 1 litre of fluids isn't enough. Next time I am taking a 3 litre camelbak and a spare bottle (granted it was about 35 degrees)
2. The hills are a lot harder than they appear and they are longer
3. Wear gloves. I didn't fall but my hands started to cramp and took a pounding on the way down
4. Get a lot of k's under your belt to maintain your fitness between trips
5. Don't go after dinner

6. Just get out and have a laugh.

This forum is great and I love my new hobby.

Awesome, I remember my first MTB ride through Manly Dam trail. Some of the downhill is definitely challenging (esp for a beginner) but the reward you feel after achieving it is unreal.

Sounds interesting. I have never tried it. I wish my first MTB ride should be good, exciting. I want to learn a lot through these rides.
