WTB SpeedDisc to Mavic CrossRide - upgrade?

Postby familyguy » Mon May 04, 2009 8:34 pm

Hanging on a set of Mavic CrossRide 6-bolt disc, barely used. Given my problems with the WTB wheel, is this a worthy upgrade to the Amasa?

Can't be worse. Seem to recall these are tubeless (the Mavics)?

Possibly, or tubless ready. Was just about to mention the Mavic are 24-spoke, whereas my WTB are 32's. 24's an issue for a 88kg moron landing on them (i.e. me)?

As you can tell I'm not averse to owning wheels twice as good as the bike they're on :D

The crossland's I have on the Jekyll are 24-spoke and they've been raced on, where you tend to just bomb straight through stuff instead of picking a line. I'm 82kg, probably close to 90kg's by the time I'm fully laden with water and tools and they're still very straight so I think you're safe. I've noticed the spokes on mine are fairly thick, and straight pull on the rear. The key is how evenly tensioned they are.

My view of WTB's is that they're on the soft side, although the ones I had are the lowly SX24's. Had a bad habit of breaking spokes whenever I went a bit wide on the exit and hit those score-marks in the pavement just after the Spit Hill esses on the way home. :x

Sheesh, dunno whats going on with the post times...April 2008?? January 2009??

But tech stuff aside, yeah, they've got to be an improvement over the WTB's. I pulled the trigger on the deal, so hopefully in a couple of weeks they'll be here, on, and riding. Couple of steps under the CrossLands, but similar tech from the Mavic info.

Should suit my amateur-ness.
