2009 Giant XTC2 Brake Problem

Postby DarrylH » Mon Aug 24, 2009 8:11 pm

Just back from the bike shop after finding that my rear Juicy 3 caliper did not line up with the disc. They said this is a known problem and a new adaptor is on the way to cure it. Not all bikes are affected so to check if yours is have a look at the rear disc. If the rub marks from the pads cover the braking surface from edge to edge you're OK. On mine there was a clear gap of about 3mm from the inner edge which was not swept by the pads and cosequently the pads had a clear 3mm ridge on their top edge where they overlapped the disc. If in doubt, compare with the front disc and it should be obvious.
If the pad wears to the point that the ridges contact I expect that brake performance would gradually decrease.
