Mt Hay Road

Postby Bnej » Mon Aug 27, 2007 9:34 pm

Another nice little ride to do in Katoomba/Leura Blue Mountains. Did this in a group of 4 on Sunday.

This one starts just around the corner from Leura train station (1 stop before Katoomba). You turn left leaving the station, pass through the highway exit roundabout, turn right into Britain St, then left into Mt Hay road and follow to the end. It's initially paved, then dirt road & gets progressively rougher.

It's a ~35km return trip. It's a longer distance than Narrow Neck, but the hills aren't as tough (22% at steepest). Some rough trail but not too tough to handle.

Unlike Narrow Neck there is vehicle access, so you have to watch for 4wds, but the road is rough enough they won't be going very fast. There are some corrugations but they were minor at the time we went.

What you'll see:

Of course, it looks far better when you're there. There are some great sections I didn't get photos off because I was too busy riding and looking around!

Jealousy doesn't adequately describe my hate towards you!!!!

Lovely back yard you've got there.
Think outside the double triangle.
Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it ....

Not sure about the 22% slopes though - like to see him tow me dog in his trailer up one of them

It is a lovely area, and so easy to get to from Sydney.

I had a good bike ... so I fixed it

Oh yes, classic ride in the mountains, done many times and each time, i remember how much i hate the corrugations

i had one of my biggest offs there in early days of my mtbing.. around 98 i think... went straight down the hill too fast and couldn't see the bend, ended up leaving a hole in the bush...

the views at the end are great though!
