What is the most narrow mountain bike handlebar?

as the title says. I'm looking for a mtn bike handlebar htat is comparable in size to a road bike drop bar.

Some Bars are tapered meaning you can't move your controls close enough to the centre. Find a bar that has parallel tubing.

First question is why? Mountain bike handlebars are wider to provide greater leverage and control on rough tracks etc. I'm not a fan of super wide DH size bars myself but i wouldn't put my road drops on an MTB (although cyclocross riders do of course). If you really must have narrower bars then just trim any set, although make sure you have room for your controls as Mitzi says.

Of course you could always steer with the stem and run a fixed singlespeed with no brakes lol.

I've seen some XC flatbars at about 540-560 wide but they make the bike rather difficult to manage unless you've got a steep (ie twitchy!) head angle.

I had some 580mm bars on a review bike with a slack head angle, and on rocky terrain where the trail sloped steeply to the side it was pretty hard to maintain a line - not enough leverage. Nearly got intimate with quite a few trees on that bike!

They're nice for flitting between trees on twisty singletrack, but the low/flat position that usually goes with these bars and the longer stem that most riders with narrow bars adopt to get back some stability means lots of interesting views of the front of your bike on the rough downhill stuff.
