There is a thread on rotorburn on how to do it. Looking now, needs a mix of shimano and SRAM to make it work apparently

Edit: here Tis 9spd SRAM shifter, 10spd shimano clutched derailleur, 9spd cluster and chain.

I thought it's about time I put up a pic of my offroad steed. Hasn't seen much use over the last few months, because I respect the trails, but it's about to get dirty once again...

I must say, it's a dream to ride. It was worth the 5mths wait to accumulate all the parts.

That looks like nice life sustaining moist lush dirt there, is it a disclose-able location? And is that a sock for a Thudbuster LT, and a well worn Brooks saddle?

Unfortunately, it's a secret location near my home. 8) To reveal its location could be self-incriminating.

But yes, well worn B17 and Thudbuster LT are in place in that photo from 6 weeks ago. The B17 has now been replaced with a C15 though.

Apparently the naming convention is:
B is for Brooks.
C is for cracks? A fat bike rider posted a pic of the rubber base cracked, suspecting it may not handle the cold/freezing weather. He claimed a light rider weight but may have applied rule of thirds on bicycle cost disclosure to his weight by accident.

I've been thinking next stage will be a Rohloff hubbed rear track with contact patch of a 46x10in tyre =D
More immediately someone has to be thinking of a 29+ semi-frame to fat frame with a tyre manufacturer making 29x3.5-4in tyres.
I was able to ride the flat sand well with the 26x3.5in slick tyre, so would love to see larger diameter contact with more volume for lower pressure.
The tyre didn't seem to like the low pressure and was showing the lamination over the diagonal belt pattern, but no competition in that size to try others.
You give them a 26in, they take a mile... ;)

They are Vee Snowshoe XL 26x4.8. Yep, I'm set for the next snow storm we have!

In the meantime, they are awesome tyres: perhaps too awesome! They grip like mad on hardpack and asphalt and are very stable on sand and pea gravel, but that comes at the price of higher rolling resistance than I'd like. They are also very noisy on hard surfaces (can live with that ...).

On the sand, this thing does not stop, whether it's flat or dune sand. No need for a 46x10 track ... :) I'm running 5.5 & 6.5 psi (F&R, tubeless) for deep sand and 11 & 12 psi for hills riding.

By coincidence, I've just ordered a pair of Surly Big Fat Knards (26x4.8, 120tpi) from Cycle Bespoke this morning. I figure I've got traction to burn with such wide tyres, so I can sacrifice a little to get better rolling resistance. They'll take 4 to 6 weeks to get here, so when they are on and run in, I'll put in a review.

Yep, about $300 all up. Landed cost was ~$2000, but the upgrades started immediately!

Cheers,
Graeme
