tubeless psi query

Postby lucifuge » Sun Dec 18, 2011 8:47 pm

I'm running Panaracer Fire XC 2.1's on my 26" dually in a tubeless setup. The sidewall rating has a minimum of 35psi. Now I note by searching the web that people are running pressure as low as 20 psi on their 2.1's (not necessarily Panaracers). My question is, can I run lower than 35's or is that asking for trouble?? At 68kg, I thought maybe I could go lower? thoughts?

I have dropped down below 35 on mine, I am a 85kg rider. I haven't had any issues when going so low, the only drama is the ride to and from the trails to my place is roughly 10kms. So at the end of a ride I usually cannot be bothered pumping them up and ride home on the road with low pressure

Weigh around 85 kg and run mine between 30-35 psi with no issues at all.

Run about 28psi at 110kgs including bike weight...no issues.
Can't do the same with cyclocross tyres though  .

I run my Nobby Nic UST 26x2.25 front tyre on the dually at 24-25psi. Any more pressure than that and it's downright sketchy. The rear is a 2.1 Racing Ralph which I run at between 28-32psi depending on terrain. I'm normally about 82kg with full 3L Camelbak, shoes, helmet and kitchen sink.

The digital gauge was showing the Michelin XCR Dry2 26x2.1 on the front of the hardtail at 17.1psi on the weekend... but I think it was lying. It certainly didn't feel that soft when I squeezed it by hand, but then it's not as thin and pliable a tyre as the Schwalbes... so I dunno.

Prior to switching the dually to Schwalbe rubber I used to run a Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.35 on the front at about 30psi and a Larsen 26x2.0 on the rear at 32.

Bear in mind these are UST tyres, which are normally very tight to get on UST rims. They have to be to seal, which they do without sealant. If trying this with non-UST kevlar beaded tyres you run the risk of burping your tyre off the rim if you run it too soft. I wouldn't want that to happen on the front at speed.

tried 26psi on my dually (AT) Stromlo the other day, felt really good!

....... will try it (AT) Kowen/Sparrows on both my bikes and see differences there.

Ooh, Kowen.... jealous. I'm just starting my training program to get ready for The Mont. Really enjoyed myself there last year.
