Hey guys
Just getting into dirt riding and so far its a happy place.
I've been talked into (it wasn't hard LOL) racing the Kona Dirty Weekend 24hr race in Adelaide in May.
What 29er tyres would you recommend?
It's come with Kenda Small Block 8's which seem pretty good on small loose gravel and hard pack but a bit squirmy on sand (feel similar to slicks), but then again I am inexperienced and only have a few different forgotten tyres on my previous 26er to compare.
Cheers Brett

Loose sand is a bugger with any tyre IME. Best I've managed is to shift weight well back to stop the front digging in and slog on, if the section is fairly short I might even clear it.

What tyres are your mates running? Might be a good point of reference to start with.
I used to run wtb exiwolves on my old 29er and they were good everywhere.

Maxxis crossmarks are popular over here but Cuddle Creek is 600km away and I have never ridden there. Hopefully someone with knowledge of the track can enlighten me

Change of plans for me.... Im now doing the 12hr in a team of 4 and have a new Giant Anthem to carry me through. Stock tyres are Crossmark 2.1's which im well familiar with of course, but thinking of putting a Maxxis Ignitor on the front..... I had Ignitors on my MTB in high school and loved them!

Lots of people run an Ignitor on front, but looking into new tyre choice soon I'm thinking a Maxxis Ardent on the front with a Crossmark on the back might be worth try. FWIW.
