Giant 27.5

Postby christophers94 » Fri May 31, 2013 6:59 pm

So Giant has adopted the newest wheel size!
Has anyone checked them out? I believe they have only released the wheel size in there cheaper Talon range, i wonder if this means a performance range realease soon :D.
I couldnt find them on the aus site but the american site has them, and so did my Local bike shop.

The colours are a bit different for the Australian models, but they look good!

Josh Carlson has been racing on 27.5 on his Reign for a little while.

Recreational range gets first release every year hence the Boulder and Talon. Performance range comes out in August. Expect an Anthem and perhaps Reign variant...

Anthem and Trance are confirmed. Spoke to the guys at MC Cycles (Giant concept store) in Syd CBD last month about organising a test ride on a 29er, and this news was mentioned.

Merida also have a few 27.5ers coming out locally soon

I wonder if the pioneers of 29ers - Trek / Gary Fisher - are going to go 27.5?

And Specialized??

It took me way too long realise Say What the significance of '27.5 inch' naming was. I kept thinking of the old, dead road size :|

So after looking at them and deciding I wanted a new bike, I purchased the 2014 Talon 27.5 1 and customised it with parts off the old bike.
Going to give it a go this afternoon!!!
Here is some pics.

Looking good!

That stem seems pretty long, but.

Great looking bike. This model will sell its socks off...

Agree with the long stem opinion. Perhaps a bit high too given the really long head tube on this frame.

And the chain looks too short even with it being on the big ring...did you size it so that it wraps front to back rings plus four complete links?

I agree it looks like a great bike, doesn't come with XT stuff except rear derailleur, but at $1299 not to bad, a through axle would have been good.

The stem is a 110 but it is an XL frame, it doesn't feel too bad but I've grabbed a 100mm stem to try.

As far as the 27.5 wheel size, it goes all right but anything would compared to what I was riding, I guess only time will tell if it's the real deal, maybe not on cross country bikes but downhill and all mountain.

As far as the chain length goes I made it really short as I was running it with a 1x10 so I wanted it to have plenty of tension, however now I have put the triple rings back on and a longer chain, more versatile.

I'm just excited I have a new bike, looking forward to the performance range release, looking at a trance or possibly an anthem, great looking bikes, both fun to ride.
I will be riding it at the Gippsland Mountain bike clubs 4 hour race at the Colquhoun forest on the 23rd of this month, which is a dedicated purpose built MTB circuit consisting of nearly %100 single track, only about 400m is not single track, but is a bike path.

Had a new giant anthem 27.5 for a month now and can't speak highly enough of it. took it through a 6 hour XC team event today and beat my previous time - set on a K2 26 - by some margin. couldn't figure out why and finally realised it was the bike! it rolls faster and rips through the turns. at the end of the day you go further, faster with less effort. The bottom bracket is the same height as my old 26 which might explain why it corners so well - centre of gravity is the same. 2 x 10 also works very well. can't see myself going back to 26 anytime soon.
