i fiddled around with my brakes last night and got them working a tiny bit better so they should be right for now. At least i can stop!

Thanks guys, I love it.

I'm 6'4" (194 cm) and all legs so I needed a big bike, this is 21" frame C2C and is great for my height.
I bought all the bits and built my own to my specs, still pretty expensive as 29ers are still a bit of a niche in Aus. But at least you get YOUR spec not someone elses..

I got the frame from Bike29 in the States, Fedex out with insurance - all good.

Thanks heaps.

Hi, I was thinking of starting a thread similar to this because I'm looking for something to replace the Giant I'm borrowing from my brother.

I've taken a liking to the KHS Solo-One and similar bicycles. Although I'm not specifically looking for a 29er, they seem to be what I'm after, being quite tall and looking for something rather simple as I'm not really interested in suspension forks or gears. It's only used for flat trails and discs aren't really a concern either as I'd rather have decent V-brakes over average discs.

Are there similar bikes around that people could recommend having a look at? The price, style and equipment level of the KHS seems to suit me well but my budget could be made for stretch a little if I find something really nice. Also are there any good ebay/online stores to look at, we're a bit short on quantity of retail here in Adelaide hah?

Hav a look at Salsa cycles and One1 bikes these guys make some very sweet single speed units with rim brakes et al.
Also Voodoo cycles will work as ss or geared with canti or disc brakes as your mood takes you.
Thanks heaps.

Reviving my original post for a case of upgradeitis. Daisy has been running 9 speed shifters/rear derailleur on the 8 speed cassette and chain, today I ebayed a new 9 speed cassette and chain and will have a go at fitting it when it all turns up. I might need to borrow a cassette removal tool and a chain whip from local BNA Perthies (if anyone can help me out initially, perhaps in a few weeks) on my first try before I flash out and get some suitable tools if I manage this okay :D

I was amazed to see the price of the new one, retail is up to $1749 now, with only a small increase in specs from the my 2008s original gear. Crazy the price rises on the 2009 stuff!.

Happy to lend the tools and guide the procedure if you like. Maybe take both our bikes out for a test ride immediately following the fitting?

Cheers,
Graeme

Many thanks the Graeme for the master class. Daisy is now stylin' with a new PG-970 cassette and PG-951 chain, spinning in 9 speed goodness.

Possibly also 50kph faster after loosing the pieplate too :D

I have had a 29er for about 6 weeks now, love it!
A mate and i bought one each.
First time mountain biking but getting right into it.
so far have done jarradale, heaps at dunsborough and yesterday did turner hill
So far have loved the 29er, running s/s like all my other bikes and loving that also. Just getting used to the spd's in awkward situations at teh moment...
anyway if you want to hook up let me know as i havent seen another 29er around yet.

Daisy hasnt had a run since last year!

Have done Carinyah and some of Langford Park, plus most of whatever Kal took us on the first time. My fitness has dropped off since then though :P

Keep an eye on the W.A. thread as Kal will post another MTB ride soon !
