MTB trails - North East Victoria

Hey MTB-ers

A friend of mine has invited me on a few trail rides around Victoria's High Country. I've never been on a mountain bike other than a Shogun from the 90s....

We are planning on going on a few trails at Big Hill Mountain Bike Park and Bright Mystic Mountain Bike Park.

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a place in Melbourne to hire a MTB.

Or alternatively, wondering whether these trails could be done on a Surly Cross Check with fatter tires. I don't mind doing it sedately. I'm not terribly familar with single track or technical stuff but I've done some of the trails off the Main Yarra Trail in on a single speed with slicks and I did the recent Hells 500 Ol Dirty on my cross check with slick 28s (never again!).
