I've been on the beach and in the scrub, with my Aldi 29er and am very happy with how it handles the different terrains.

I normally do 3 laps of that circuit rather than two but the heat and the last two days of stuffing myself beat me into submissionfoo on patrol wrote:I think you beat me in elevation gain.

Thats an interesting elevation profile there!trailgumby wrote:Apart from my 10yo 26er that is my wet weather commuter, I only have 700c wheels. I love my Scalpel and my Trigger.

Yeah. Dunno what's going on around the 6km mark. Like I said it was rather warm. Maybe the temperature increase messed with the altimeter? Overall the elevation change is in the ballpark but the lack of an identifiable pattern for the two laps is interesting.mikgit wrote:Thats an interesting elevation profile there!trailgumby wrote:Apart from my 10yo 26er that is my wet weather commuter, I only have 700c wheels. Fairly probably. Most bike computers with altitude work on changes in air pressure to calculate elevation change. Hitting hot patches with corresponding low air pressure can spike the altitude graph; similarly you can get an upward trend over a longer ride as the air warms and reduces pressure through the day.trailgumby wrote: Yeah. Used to be a real problem with my old 705, but given the 810 records temperature I would hope that the altimeter has some sort of compensation algorithm, much like my power meter. It certainly seems to give me less wacky results. For example today hit highs over 40C and it has given me ascent and descent numbers within two metres of each other.Duck! wrote:Fairly probably. That altitude trace from Tuesday was just outright weird!
