I'm looking at two options Giant Fathom 29 1 and the Merida Big 9 600
Both about the same weight
I'm not sure of which has better components, any feedback would be appreciated

Any other other bikes I should be considering??

I'd be more tempted by the Merida. The Manitou Marvel fork is a step-up on the SR Axon wedged into the Fathom. The Tektro brakes on the Merida aren't quite Shimano spec on principle rather than experience but brake upgrades are cheap enough.
If it fits you then go the Merida. Otherwise this sector is jammed with options from Norco, Focus, Polygon, Scott, Cannondale...even Canyon (almost!) . And many others besides...

Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

Yup Merida for the better fork, otherwise there's not much in it. Stick a set of Deore brakes on it and if the NX drivetrain is annoying swap for an SLX shifter/ RD combo and it's a solid ride.
