Hey ladies -

So I am wondering when you go MTBing do you wear your lycra shorts or baggy shorts ? If they are baggy shorts do you wear lycra underneath or a liner or are just the shorts fine ??

Just not sure what is the best option ! Just lycra is fine but I like wearing the shorts as well - so far haven't tried them without lycra underneath so curios to know what other do.

Thanks :)

I just wear Lycra knicks. Most baggies come with a liner (the better ones are detachable) so you can get extra liners to save washing the outer all the time. Handy if you're commuting or touring, or wanting to get a few miles out of knicks that are too worn out to be seen outside. The liner gives you some padding and wicking, but critically saves you sitting on seams which can chafe.

I'd steer clear of the liner short. They end up moving and gets uncomfortable fast. just wear bib shorts as per road cycling. MTBrs are a more relaxed bunch and you see everything on the trails from your fully stock XC race in full lycra to the teenage skateboarder equivalent in full black (with matching black bike and nails).

Personally, I do just normal shorts (no padding) for single track and bib shorts for longer gravel/fireroad type rides. If it is even remotely technical, you will hardly spend much time in the saddle.

My Mrs wears road kit while she road cycles and also when she rides CX. She says the lack of items rubbing and the lack of seams makes it a lot more comfortable. Before she met me, she did use to ride in non bike riding shorts, thinking they were ok, but she rode a lot less, and also less distance. But after she met me, and we started doing some decent rides, she hated baggy shorts. She then asked me about bibs for xmas to try them out, that was 3 years ago, and she wont go back. says it's so much more comfortable and the kit she has now is very stylish too, much more like a bicycling in a really nice little black dress than wearing your trackies.

Good riding baggies are engineered with no seams in the important places. If you want to go this route check out any of Enduras lines.
From personal experience I can recommend the Humvees.
