[SMH] Electric bikes grow in popularity in Sydney

Postby CommuRider » Sat Mar 05, 2011 12:16 pm

I've not seen too many cycling around in e-bikes in the CBD (can't say the same for motorised scooters) but I have come across them in the open, parked near where CCTVs are so I guess if they get stolen they'd be documented. Given the hefty price tag with an e-bike though, I'd have thought they'd find better places to park it.

With a maximum speed of 25km/h...it's a bit puny.

Review here:

Good for hills but weights 24 kgs (without shopping). Hmmm...

Nice article and free 250W of power. 25km/h sounds most reasonable or it won't mix well on bike paths. On roads, most of the riders needing power assist aren't going to travel much faster on graded roads where assistance is needed anyway. On downhills, they can still pedal.

I think it's good... more bikes means safer for me and more infrastructure.

I'm happy with the 25kph limit on assistance though...it makes them fun to catch and pass... LOL. The only downside is there are e-bikes around that are clearly home build specials without the limits. There are a few about in BNE and there is this one guy with a HUUUUGE electric hub that I'd love to have a closer look at.
