student e bike project

Postby zawk » Sun Mar 27, 2011 1:49 pm

Hey all

We got a bike for our student project that we can modify into a ebike. We intend to add the motor + power source inside the frame so we would like access to the bottom bracket crank. However it has a cartridge bottom brackets. Question to ask is:
Can the casing be removed to have access to the crank without damaging the bb? The bb is a Shimano BB-UN-26 Sealed cartridge bottom bracket. We don't actually have the bike in our hands yet, probably sometime next week.

Ideally we would like one of those external bearings so its easier to modify. Any recommendations on how to go about changing the bb and crank into the external ones??

You might be better if you put this query in the workshop thread (The Shed), since it would be more about modifying a bike frame rather than just electric motorising
