My cheap crappy Chinese carrier seems fixed, well at least until the next ‘weld’ breaks. It’s amazing what can be achieved with 8 pop-rivets, 4 bolts, 7 hose clamps, various pieces of steel and aluminium combined with liberal amounts of profanity. The result is that the battery slides in and out far nicer than before plus all the cacophony of noise that used to accompany me everywhere has virtually disappeared.
My next build will include a proper steel carrier.

It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.

Get yourself a Tubus 'Cosmo' stainless steel rack. Seriously, expensive outlay but worth it in the long run. They are bombproof.
