Equipment and On Road Behaviour, Laws and Rules. Cycling Promotion and Advocacy
Last night on aroundabout I was cut off by a gentleman driving a ute whilst talking on a hand held mobile phone.
He seemed very skillful as he was able to turn right at this roundabout, driving with only his left hand and without interrupting his phone conversation.
(I always half expect drivers to to give way on this roundabout, so no real harm done.)
I may have glared at the driver as he sailed past.
I also noticed the number plates were from Victoria.
These incidents happen rather quickly so I don't get time to memorize number plates or take photos.
So I guess my question is; "What do other cyclists do when faced with these type of incidents?"
Pretty much sums it up - not much you can do. If you got the plates you could report it to the cops - and if it was a slow news day they might even bother phoning the driver, but very unlikely unless the cops witnessed it themselves or the driver actually hit you. And even then...
My usual response is to hold my hand up to my ear in the universal 'talking on the phone' gesture and mouth "w*nker", which will probably get me bashed or run over someday...
On the upside there seems to be a bit of an effort by the cops to crack down on drivers using mobile phones, though I note it's still perfectly legal to eat a hamburger while weaving across three lanes at 110Kmph as I saw on the weekend
Apparently there are help lines that receive money to care - and they're Freecall so you don't even need the $0.40 anymore.
What is it with cycling? 30+ kmh and lycra???!!!
Knock on the window at the next set of lights and ask them to end the call and concentrate* on what they're doing.

Womble ol' son, could you design this into a jersey? I'd buy...
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

i might have to make a new thread on this matter actually!
Actually eating while driving is illegal (at least in NSW). I can't remember exactly what the charge is, something like 'improper control of a motor vehicle'.
Never heard of anyone being booked tho'
