A COURT has heard a murder charge against a man alleged to have deliberately hit a cyclist while driving a car in northern NSW.

James Andrew Mitchell, 53, of Nashua, did not appear in Lismore Local Court today to answer the charges of murder and dangerous driving occasioning death.

The charges follow the death of Ocean Shores man John Foss, who was hit by a car while riding a motorised bicycle in Mullumbimby on Tuesday.

No plea was entered and bail was refused by registrar Mark Bromhead. The matter was adjourned to Lismore Local Court for mention on January 17.

About time the authoities started to get tough on people that run down cyclists.

I don't believe that he killed the cyclist is under dispute. He has been charged with murder, which may or may not be disputed depending on his plea. So no, the title is not incorrect.
