Re: mandatory glove lawsShould black shorts be mandatory ?
Re: mandatory glove laws
I've read your other post. For knicks, there should be no other colour. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: mandatory glove laws
That's what I was hinting at
Re: mandatory glove laws
The anti MHL people are winning the 'throw personal insults' competition at the moment Bill. Though my money is on you not closing two lengthy threads within 7 days.
Re: mandatory glove lawsAnd the antis are still failing to say challenge accepted...
Next time I won't bother locking a thread like that. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Keep coffee out of it.
Re: mandatory glove lawsWhat stance is there on "Lobster Gloves" i like my Gore pair but it never seems cold enough to get them out. Though they are a semi-mitten as well as a glove.
Re: mandatory glove lawsThey're not gloves....... these are gloves !!
![]() Well, they're not really, pogies that you wear over your gloves and covering the whole handlebar grips Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: mandatory glove lawsNo, pogies. The real deal for winter riding in parts of the USA and Canada.

Re: mandatory glove laws
Never mind the handwarmers.....this is the photo that those wanting to do away with the MHL should be using as an example of what a dork you look wearing a helmet, and what minimal benefit wearing a helmet like that would be in a fall. Unless of course you have a really really pointy head.
Re: mandatory glove laws
are they Australian Standards compliant?
Re: mandatory glove laws
Yet in posting in this thread, you have precluded youself from being in the sensible people group. Dangnabit! so have I!
Re: mandatory glove lawsWhat about this video.

Re: mandatory glove lawsI think we need mandatory chain mail suits for swimmers. I guarantee it will stop virtually 100% of shark attacks. Let's not forget that some 12 people died from shark attacks in Australia in 2011. As stated - given this will be 100% effective I think it should be mandated immediately.
Anyone who swims without a chain mail suit will be subject to a fine, and if they are attacked no rescue or medical help will be forthcoming so the drain to the public purse will be eliminated. They already exist... read about it here. I think the manufacturers should start lobbying the Australian government and tooling up immediately! They look quite sexy too. Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: mandatory glove laws
WRONG. as the video shows, the suits are only designed to protect against little baby gummy sharks. they are useless against scarier great whites and the like. also the majority of shark attacks are known to be the fault of the shark, so why are we not punishing them instead of making the victim wear ridiculous suits?

Re: mandatory glove laws
Actually I think you missed the subtlety in my argument. Unlike MHL which only stopped about 40% of cycling overnight MCMS laws would stop virtually 100% of beach goers from swimming overnight too. You can't get nibbled by a great white if you aint in the water. The other beauty of the legislation is that it would apply to all swimming - so would include swimming in swimming pools as well... just as MHL applies to people peddling at 10kph with the kids in the park or to the local shops. Just as helmets are good for people racing or doing downhill MTBing - what's good for the deepwater scuba diver is just as good for the family having a paddle in the local council pool. Seriously this proposal will eliminate the chances of shark attach and save over ten lives in Australia each year. Why not? Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: mandatory glove lawsThe funniest thing about the world of scuba is that I don't think there are any legally mandated equipment items for the sport. Even the air-tanks are optional
The only mandatory item is probably the PFD while you're in the dive boat Riding bikes in traffic - what seems dangerous is usually safe; what seems safe is often more dangerous.
Re: mandatory glove lawsWon't stop attacks, will lower the serious injuries.
Only good for feeding small sharks anyway, too heavy and restrictive for any serious diving. Most are Only a strap on arm piece anyway of the divers feeding hand. Read that a woman had her arm torn off after sticking it into a large moray eels hole. Silly moo !
Re: mandatory glove laws
I used to work for quicksilver in port Douglas. The PADI setup sets stds for divers and the dive operator sets the rules whilst under their supervision on their craft. Diving is too complicated for a council suit to regulate from his CBD office.
