Well to balance the cultural?/racial? discrimination against long term Rockhampton residents, underemployed people from all parts of Australia, NZ,Pacific Islands, and further afield, have flocked to the region since before the mining boom. I've never heard of a new Australian resident/457 having to sit a driver's test (when they already have a license). Further, competitive cycling has a long and rich history in most Qld regional towns (esp Ipswich, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Rocky).

I think the issue is areas undergoing rapid population growth such as Rocky, experience a spectrum of people from varying backgrounds and driving experience, swelling inadequate road infrastructure.

My thoughts on that driver's views are "please drive to the nearest motor registration office and request to have your licence revoked".

If you replace every single reference to a cyclist with "your grandmother who prefers to drive very conservatively and under the speed limit" you get a wonderful attitude test. If someone is seriously unable to wait to achieve a safe, legal overtake, they are driving an emergency vehicle (and NSW requires that the cops/fireys/ambos go through reds at a crawl now, so safety is required from those who can break the law as they need!) and have other business to attend to, or they are too impatient to hold a licence. Since 99.99% of vehicles are not emergency vehicles attending emergencies, we'll assume that they just shouldn't have a licence.

We know speeding kills. Let's start seeing ads saying that mobile battering rams at 50kmh kill as well.
