Petzl have released the Sirocco climbing helmet designed to protect sport climbers from falling rocks and the like. You might say...'So what?'. I'd respond with watch this space because of two reasons...it's made of expanded polypropylene foam which is far more more durable than the traditional polystyrene of our helmets and it weighs just 165 grams. It also retails for just US$110 so its street price is down in the 80's
It isn't attractive in its safety orange shade but like I said...

Not legal to use here in Aus, but IMHO far more effective than what we have mandated for us.

Perfectly legal to use...just not for cycling. It is certainly on the market at local specialist outdoor equipments stores.
