Japanese Cyclist Hit and Run in Surfers Paradise 14th May

Sorry if this has been already posted - it made the local news on the Gold Coast while I
was holidaying there a couple of weeks ago (14th May).



It shows the danger of "salmoning" - the cyclist was actually a pedestrian walking his
cyclist against the traffic direction at the time he was hit. He was compliant
with the road rules, which stipulate that pedestrians walk facing the on-coming
traffic in such circumstances.

Construction for the tramway is changing conditions on a daily basis,
so it's possible that the cyclist was left stranded by unexpected changes
and had no other way out than walking by the road. It looks like a war
zone, and the motorist was negligent simply for driving at that speed
in such an area.

The cyclist was cogent enough to be interviewed by Channel 7 the following
day...

Sadly, all the youtube comments to date are attacking the cyclist,
and nobody seems to hold the motorist responsible.

So it's all OK in Qld to leave the scene of an accident.

It really beggars belief that with all the security cameras around
Surfers that nothing got the car's rego details.

It also appears the police were less than diligent in pursuing the offender -
the video was found by his friend's investigative efforts. Qld police - give
yourself an uppercut, if you haven't brought the offender to justice.

Plod should be working hard to find the driver and nail 'em to the nearest tree.
Apart from the legal side and the respect for humanity thing, the bloke is a visitor. I'm sure more than one prospective visitor will have second thoughts after watching this.


Mr Tsubaki did put himself in harms way by not crossing the road but that never excuses a hit and run.

Wow, just a few cuts and bruises?!?! A very lucky man with a great sense of humour about his bike.

The driver must have been drunk to leave the scene with such disregard. You're right, surely if the police did their due diligence they would be able to track the car using other cameras in the vicinity.

If it ever should go to court, a jury will no doubt find the cyclist/pedestrian was at fault.

Poor lad, it makes my blood boil when I see visitors having a terrible experience in Australia, Gold Coast has too many bogans.
