There will be some pretty interesting comments to that article, provided they let them through.

I am confused. Are you sure that article was in the smellograph - apart from applying awful stereotypes to motor vehicles, it appears to have been the subject of some thought and little sensationalism.

The comments indicate it's still the old Daily Telegraph. Readers with the brains of a syphilitic flea but still allowed to operate a motor vehicle.

The pro cycling or anti News comments don't get published.

I don't mind if a car driver runs me down. As long as they do a decent job of it and finish me off quickly. It's a horrible thing to say, but perhaps being frank like that might provoke some thought and change for the better.

Truly feral comments "It's all the cyclists' fault".

Cyclists have to increase their visibility hey? Ban black cars, and force ALL road users to adopt these same measures. Ideally force peds to do the same. Cyclists understand the limits of visibility already. It's time to ensure drivers are sure they face extreme penalties for collisions with anything.

People respond to threats quite readily. Fines and loss of liberty are easy enough to enforce.

Every solution less than This is basic lip service. Our attitudes are lax as a nation because our enforcement is lax.

Wonder if these people would "blame the victim" if the article was about girls being sexually molested or raped? "she was asking for it by wearing a mini-skirt" or "she deserved it for walking around Kings Cross at midnight"

Ross, the greater public would possibly disappear into a black hole caused by the sheer intensity of their moral quandary if they considered this...

How did that happen? ;) I notice they didn't post my comment. It must have hit a nerve.

Agreed - car drivers must wear high-viz vests and proper driving shoes. Pedestrians at night should already be made to wear high-viz vests because they are often extremely hard to see.

So should cows and kangaroos. They're even more dangerous at night. And trees.
