Had a look today I'm not seeing anything in particular wrong with the layout there, the children's playground has a fence, the drinking tap is inbetween the exercise stations and the footpath, clear of the cycle lanes

What a crazy idea that be all round...
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Thanks for the photos Mike. They show a drain between the fountain and the path - so any issue with water on path and pedestrians avoiding it by walking onto the cycleway now fixed. And there is no apparent leak from the fountain. Risk eliminated -well done Leichardt Council.

The black path is for peds only and the red path is for cyclists only. There's also a second ped path along the sea wall

Which is one of the major design defects with this section of path - where the sections of the Bay Run constructed earlier did it the opposite way, eg streeview.

Another major design defect is that this is the only section of path in which the water side of the path is for cyclists. Everywhere else the peds use the water side.

When people are required to alternate between which side of the path they walk or ride on and what colour path they are meant to walk or ride on, it is entirely predictable that some proportion of people will get it wrong, thus negating the primary reason for having a separated cycle path and footpath.

The 3rd major design defect was putting the exercise area and playground too close to the path.

All of these defects were raised with Leichhardt Council prior to construction, but were ignored.

Originally they had the ped path along the waterfront and the bike path by itself. The peds were spread evenly between the ped only path and the bike only path, so I suspect the council added the second ped path along the bike path to address the problem of peds not keeping to the original ped path.

I don't see any issues with the exercise station, you access from the newer ped path and the childern's playground is fenced off
