I like the Parklets......have they been tried in Australian cities? "Pop up" everythings are the flavour of the day, and the timing could be right!

City of Vincent (Perth) has a few - they seem promising.

I think Park & Pedal could show promise. Catch the train to a convenient station, grab the wheels out of the secure lock-up and roll the last few kays to the workplace.

Side story of British article was Usain Bolt.
Usain can run faster than a Segway. So does that mean he should have been looking where he was going?
Sorry official, "I didn't see him". ???

Those bike lockers would be good at the back of the office building I am in.

I used to ask Dubbo-ites why they don't ride.

1. It's too far. a. D was 10km side to side, now it's 12.
2.It's too hot. a. Summer gets up to 40c, often over 30c.
3.It's too cold. a. Winter, June-August, is usually under 15c.
4.It's too hilly. a. ??? From river level to the highest urban area would be less than 100m vertical. Over a 1-4km horizontal.
5.I live too far away. a. The greater D area (5-25acre blocks) is no more that 15km from the centre of town. And most of the blocks are less than 10km.
6. The roads are too dangerous. a. Only since Helmet laws (a necessary evil) stopped people, and parents started driving children to the school gate.
(Not sure if I bothered listening this far, very depressing answers).

Pretty similar reasons people give everywhere else but they are even less applicable in Dubbo, although there is zero on-road cycling infrastructure from what I remember.

Some of these reasons are simply people trying to rationalise an excuse but for some its legit.

I would've thought one of the biggest barriers to cycling in Dubbo is theft risk - similar to Kalgoorlie and other large country towns with sizeable feral populations.

Segway speeds are variable, not fixed and top speeds can be adjusted (I know this because I am a certificated Segway Master. Seriously!) Also, the Segway rider rear-ended Bolt so he is automatically at fault. He was probably using a mobile phone, too. :D
